I was drag racing in Southern California and made friends with a guy named Lane Goldstein that had a 160 thermostat, wrote his own tune, put skinnies on the front and a 9 in rear end and would pull the wheels off the ground launching at 6000. May I ask for some details about the work did to it? Like where did you purchase the headers, chip and gears? I'm guessing Mark Heibeck for the chip? Did you install the rear or have a shop do it? Does she have cut outs? I have a 91 ZR-1 and it sounds tame in comparison to yours. I'm still at 375 so i'd have more to mod to get to 405. I've heard the 4:10s really improve response! Was it as good as I've heard?

  • @kylec4zr1

    @kylec4zr1

    Жыл бұрын

    Headers, chip, and gears all purchased and installed through Haibeck! No cutouts are installed. The 4:10s are definitely more exciting. I don't know for sure if they make the car quicker, but they are more fun around town. The '90 I had with the stock gears felt lazy in comparison. It is now pretty easy to light up the tires in 1st gear. I'll be looking at stickier tire options when it comes time to replace them.

    @@lukehelpmetakethisdangmaskoff That's a tough one for me to answer. If you're looking for definitive quicker straight line performance, I can't say the gears are it. I haven't run it at the track to compare, and I honestly can't tell too much by seat of the pants. The mods this car has is more of a character change in my opinion. It's louder and more responsive around town. If you're looking for a face-smacking difference in straight line performance, I would seriously consider Haibeck's 510hp package at the greater cost. These are just my thoughts!

  • @lukehelpmetakethisdangmaskoff

    @lukehelpmetakethisdangmaskoff

    @@kylec4zr1 I greatly appreciate your opinions! Actually, I'd love the 650 hp package but the $ is a little steep. He says the 510 hp rout is the best bang for the buck, so that is likely what I would go for. Also, I'd like a red block and either polished or the bright silver coating for the plenum. But, thats down the road a bit. I've replaced the injectors thanks to his video on how to do that and also replaced the master and slave on the clutch but the dang thing is starting to whine again when I depress the clutch just like it did before replacement. I've put about 3000 miles on the new parts, if that. Have you had any issues with your clutch? I do know that there is a rattle that is associated with the plates when the engine is idling slow or rough. Had that problem until I replaced the injectors. I think by 93 GM had fixed that problem so you probably have the original injectors right?

  • @kylec4zr1

    @kylec4zr1

    @@lukehelpmetakethisdangmaskoff I don’t have any loud whines from the clutch, but the drivelines overall aren’t exactly quiet either. I do like the 1st gear whine on the early ZF trans. I am assuming I’m on the original injectors since the 93+ injectors are ethanol compatible.

    You’d be shifting your brains out on a road course with 4.10s! They are definitely more fun on the street though.

    @@kylec4zr1 Absolutely! I went from 3:42’s with wicked long gears to smaller wheels to give it that oomph but ultimately went to a 3:73 that gave it take off at the price of early shifts. Now I’m the world we’re autos are faster than manuals it lost what was gained cause each shift they leap forward.

    I limp mine around town, it’s embarrassing, sounds like a UPS truck full of gravel. Yeah, I did a lightweight aluminum flywheel. I did stretch it’s legs before the weather change, on the way to the dealership, I miss those 7k shifts. Your car sounds awesome, definitely jealous!

    I like when someone is responsible enough to make videos like this on a road, where no one else is driving, instead of speeding in the middle of a city, like some idiot irresponsible youngster does with their fathers BMW.

    I’m pretty confident I could stay even with or walk a scatpack from a 20mph roll. From a dig the scatpack would jump out in front, no question, especially with launch control.
