    Unfortunately, the RX7s airbag never been deployed, not becuz its not working or anything but becuz of the likes of street racing, ppl who buys the RX7 would got rid of the factory steering, replacing it with racey type which dont support an airbag, so when they crash, they either die or flew out of the RX7 unless your a police officer or a woman in Japan

    Fábio Aguiar Rotary engines are reliable, they're just owner sensitive. People who know what they're doing run Rotaries well into the 200,000 plus kilometre range without issue. It's owners who are unfamiliar with them that think they're unreliable.

    @Thor Odin son Yeah. Easy - did you have a rotary engine, and did you rebuild it? Or are you fucking supid? It is an engine REBUILD! You have to take engine out of a car, and ... what the fuck am I even trying to explain. It is plus-minus like normal engine rebuild. I have watched multiple of videos on this subject - it is NOT EASY.

    I thought the 3000GT was rather reliable, except that timing belt, every 60k, or else. RX-7 was the legendary nightmare, but great chassis.

  • @tscooter22

    @tscooter22

    9 жыл бұрын

    Legendary nightmare? I've owned mine since it was brand new. The only nightmare is the thought of serious engine work, none that has come up yet. If you don't rice them out like an idiot, they can be very reliable cars. After 90,000 miles, all I've done is brakes, tires and basic maintenance. Problem with the RX7's history is most of the cars were taken over by high schoolers and college kids who beat the ever living shit out of them. :-)

  • @vioscios

    @vioscios

    9 жыл бұрын

    tscooter22 I strongly disagree, I'm sure the other parts were adequate, but the engine is what I'm talking about. It was a horrible engine, and the vehicle topped the lemon reports for every production year. Even now, check ebay, etc and see how many of the RX-7s are selling with, BRAND NEW, engine. The thing was a nightmare. An RX-7 was also rather expensive, I doubt it was driven by scores of teenagers, and even if it was, the 3000GT was the same price range and had a rather reliable engine record despite all the, supposed, teenage drivers.

  • @tscooter22

    @tscooter22

    9 жыл бұрын

    vioscios Those other parts were probably more than adequate, but that doesn't mean they work well as a finished product. Those parts are engineered to "fit" the car, but they were not engineered to work in harmony with Mazda engineers original design. Once you start loading upgrade after upgrade, you might go from a 255 hp car to 500 hp or more! Doing that can create all sorts of problems with not only the engine, but the rest of the drivetrain components as well. Btw, the teenagers I speak of are the ones who bought them on the used market. Horsepower is everything, with lasting effects being the last thing on their minds. You know, kids always thinks bad shit only happens to other people until they actually live and learn. Then they bitch and moan about the car being a piece of shit. So, you keep on touting your BS about unreliable Rotary engines. Ignorance is bliss. I guess they suck so bad that it won Le Mans.

    +tscooter22 Looks like your judgement has been clouded due to the fact that you own one. I'm a mechanic and over the years I've gotten the same consensus with RX-7s the rotary engines USUALLY not always crap out at around 100k miles. The rotary engine is a good idea but flawed, engineering has not perfected them to last extremely long yet due to the design they wear internally very easily. I have heard though Mazda plans to bring back the RX-7 and RX-8 for 2016 and they will be rotary. Who knows maybe Mazda nailed it down and plan to show us. As for RX-7 vs 3K I'm sorry but the 3Ks are just magnificent and better. I've haven't owned either so I'm not one sided, but I have driven both extensively. 3Ks with 4WD and 4WS are just incredible to drive though I would say a Galant VR-4 definitely a better handling car. They last a long time I'm always seeing them in Craigslist with over 200k miles. The 3K VR-4 makes 300 stock and 320 starting in 94 and they're extremely tunable I've seen a 700hp 3K and I'm sure there's some out there with more. But don't worry RX-7s are still fucking awesome cars mainly because you don't see them anymore, while 3Ks still roam the streets more commonly. And let me tell you the Mazda has got looks over the Mitsu any day of the week. Still I'd pick the 3K over the 2. +Dvoynin.inc No I've just told the truth ;)

    I owned both a mid 90s RX-7, and a 3000GT VR4. And coincidentally, a 1990 Jaguar XJ6 that was originally my fathers. Guess what car is still alive in my garage today? The Brit. Which if you asked me 25 years ago, I’d have laughed. But here it is looking pristine and new, still running with 187k miles with the typical Jag “marking it’s spot” oil drops on the floor. Worth only about 2-3k in the world. Yet If I could have one of the others two cars today, it would 1000% be the RX-7. Just timeless looking. with a driver first approach. And less cheap plastic and fake vents that plagued mitsubishi. Even in the eclipse and talons. Also had a Turbo Awd one of those. They just either fell apart or age faded even when winter garaged.

    No rotary engine is as reliable long term as Jaguar’s well-sorted AJ6. The Mitsubishi V6 and its turbos and intercoolers wasn’t exactly a Corolla engine, either. You have to remember that Jaguar’s quality and reliability were drastically improved at this point and its technology proven. In general, Japanese cars were more reliable long-term, but not these two.

    Definitely the RX-7. It's like a little hardtop Miata that holds its value and has two turbos. Also, who would want an old dodge stealth?

    Turn the RX7 a/c on and you suddenly have 150HP. Check back after 50K miles and see if the engine still has compression. Mine threw an apex seal out the turbo and killed both the engine and one of the turbos.

    V12 > Rotary engine. END OF STORY. Also the Jag is about $6000 cheaper than the RX7. Did I mention that rotary engines are INSANELY expensive to repair? Good luck fixing it when it breaks.

    Beating a dead horse, but they are not expensive, not at all actually. About $1100 for a rebuild kit or a shop will do it for about 1600-1800. Reliability, well that comes down to how you take care of the vehicle, just a couple reliability mods and its good. I've had mine for over 200 thousand miles and only the only issue I had was a flat tire. If people knew how to take care of them then they wouldn't have a reputation. BTW my daily is a 1994 Rx-7, and she is still running great.

    Given the choice between the 3 cars, I'd choose the FD. As far as reliability goes, that all depends on what you now about maintenace. The Jaguar and the FD have both aged well and their prices are still high. The GTO is a common old sportscar and is boring imho. My Rx-7(FC3S) is running strong at 168,xxx+ mind you this is my original engine. Some think the Jaguar is classy, and it is, but not everyone is going to want the classiest car. It's whatever you're passionate about.

    Yeah, sure pal, because it really matters THAT MUCH. Spoiler: IT DOESN'T! Just give it a bigger gas tank and ramp up the torque to compensate, and if it bugs you that much, reduce the weight and tweak the aerodynamics, but my points still stand, the Jag is far cheaper to buy, cheaper to fix, more powerful, faster, and safer. And you can't disprove that last one. The RX7 is a mobile deathtrap compared to the XJS.

    "I recon, it looks like an E type jag"... Hahaha!!! That RX7 looked nothing like an E type! If anything, it looked like a Viper. It was short and squat, with heavily sculpted, muscular curves. The Jag E type was long and lean, with smooth, flowing curves. Clarkson was one of the most biased automotive journalists/presenters I've ever seen. He always leaned heavily toward Jags and Land Rovers.. Fitting then, that he ended up doing silly presentations, and he was good for that. Because a serious and unbiased journalist he was not.

    No, they aren't, and you've been told why. 150-500 mile tow bills are not cheap, neither is the mechanic who sees a gold mine in front of him. If you're suggesting the car needs an entire engine/trans swap from another company entirely and that this is an acceptable solution, why buy the damn thing in the first place? FFS, I could say "a base model 'New Beetle' is INCREDIBLE! ..just put a WRX STi engine in there and you've got a great car." Do you see how stupid that sounds, now?
