Lol, grandpa here kills me. 30 years later the keypad entry is still here. People love it.

A nice car with some great features even Sable styling is nice as well. This generation along its sister Taurus were amazing cars.

funny to hear Ted hates the keyless entry keypad. This is such an awesome feature and has a ton of use cases. The main being that you can lock your keys inside the car so you don't have to bring them with you.

Ford did do a great job on this. Sure it’s not as good as a Camry, but what a launch forward for Ford, and it was pleasant to drive while being vastly updated. I caught a glimpse of the windshield wipers. Wow they added such a touch of class, looking high tech, to impress customers. They looked like they’re doing a great job compared to other cars with fewer articulation points.

My aunt recently gave me the wagon version of this car. 92' LS model in light blue with blue interior. Keypad, digital instrumentation, electronic climate controls... Has 200,000 miles on it and still has the factory transmission on it. Never died or been replaced. My uncle changed the trans fluid and filter every 30,000 miles so it's lasted. It needs new paint and a front-end alignment though.

i owned one, it was a blinkin' rattletrap! 3.8 liter engine had head gasket issues, coolant leaks. rode hard over all but the smoothest roads.

And now, the brand-new Hummer is doing the full-width lightbar, which Mercury did so well since 1986...

I don’t know why this guy is talking negative about this car. To me it was a car ahead of its time. It was so Futuristic to be in the 80s If you ask me. Four years before this car launched they were just doing away the round head lights to the Square Head lights. They were still making boxy cars at that time from 85 to 92 and that was the only round car with the blended headlights. The mercury sable, and the Oldsmobile aurora was two vehicles before it’s time if you ask me.

The too conservative redesign of the Taurus/Sable for 1992, was perhaps the beginning of the end for the popular model.

I get it that Ford is good in making good cars or cars that get good reviews, and this fact is made no more evident than when they were the only US carmaker that didn’t need a bailout back in ‘08. The Taurus was the car I remember to have been a great successful effort by the company back in the 80s, well celebrated an really promoted the brand in my mind at least. But I remember the first time i got on a Taurus wagon and boy was i confused and greatly disappointed because for some reason that car seemed to have absolutely no suspension in the back! That experience left a huge image impact on me. This got even further reinforced when i finally drove and got a few chances to rent UHaul trucks and the Chevys always felt to have more isolated drivetrains and plusher rides. Also, back when taxis were either a Crown Vic or a Caprice, you could hear the drivetrain whine on the Fords, and on the Chevys you rode in profound silence and cloud like comfort. Nowadays i always see Ford as the “grainier” feeling and stiffer riding cars and trucks.
