1992 FXRS Convertible Start-Up and test Ride. These Bikes have a cult following right now. Only Harley-Davidson can produce a bike that is highly sought after 20+ years after they were built brand new.

My uncle bought a 1992 FXR brand new in 1991. He still has it to this day and it is his favorite bike out of the 5 he currently has. That bike is what made me love Harleys from a very early age. Someday it will be mine when he can't ride anymore, but until then I will have to ride my 2018 HD Sportster Forty Eight! I will be getting a new Fatbob next year, and that will make the garage look awesome someday. A sporty 48, a new fatbob and a 1992 FXR? Don't mind if I do!

Thanks for the review. I came across a nice 92 and I'm thinking of adding it to the garage. I'm 70 so a 92 doesn't seem that old.🤣

First bike was a 1990 Harley FXRS Sport bought in 2005 with only 4700 miles on it. Liked it so much I bought a 1991 FXRS Convertible for my wife as an upgrade to her Sportster. Eventually traded in the 1990 FXR on a Electra Glide and still kicking myself but I do still have the Convertible in pristine condition. Awesome handling bike.

The FXR frame was an Erik Beull design. Much less so an "HD" design. And yes, arguably the best frame HD ever produced. Sad to see it gone.

Erik Buell was a consultant on the FXR team. He has repeatedly been quoted as saying his role in the program has been highly overstated. He did not design the frame. HD had already built the frame when they called him in to help iron out some problems they were having with it. Regardless, the FXRs were some of the best offerings HD has ever made. The Dyna was a huge step backwards in performance but it had to be done for financial reasons.

@@Friscorockhead Whoever or whichever engineering team designed the FXR frame did a hell of a job. FXR frame is not built to a budget price , that's one reason why they are sure & proper frames, specially when an Evolution engine is the power plant.

What a dissapointing test ride considering the talk of handling and various statements that have been made about the new harleys handling and comparison raves I've heard from this fella. It was like she dropped her pants then asked me to go buy some milk. But nice bike

They say you are never sorry about the things you didn't buy... well I almost bought a brand new FXR Convertible back in 1990. I decided it was too much money at the time, but I've been sorry ever since. Great video even though it brings up a sore subject!

I've never owned one, but I've got FXR Fever, now. I've been seeing and loving the fairings (not the little ones). I want one on my Sporty. I love the sound and bars that this bike has. I reminds me of riding my Uncle's Yamaha 850 Special that had the same style bars. That may have been my first time to ride a bike. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was before I actually learned to ride, which was at 13. It was so long ago. They have such style, unlike a lot of the bars that new bikes have. Who would have thought that a stock exhaust could sound so good?

Glad to see this and in such great condition. I have a 1990 fxr lowrider that is waiting for my wallet to fatten up. I plan to customize it with the condition the frame stays intact. Otherwise its a frankenstien bike that's gone through a couple of owners who worked on with beer cans, spit and more than a few choice words. Who knows what left that's original. My local dealer assured me just last week that its not too old for them to work on it. Yay!

I see you have put a lot of work on the introduction of your video. Nice work. I personally would shorten it a few seconds as it appears to take quite a while before the actual video starts. But that's just me. Once the filming starts it does look polished and well thought out though. Now, the FXR is without a doubt a special Harley. With the tachometer in a perfect position. As well as a fuel gauge for an Evo Engine Harley. If I remember correctly very few models came with a gas gauge below the top tier ElectraGlide model. Very nice. And talk about clean. Near perfect in every way. You did a good job of walking around the bike and letting us see key parts of interest. Like the near New finish mag wheels. And glossy paint. Myself I'm looking for an OEM 1995 or perhaps a few years older analog Odometer equipped gauge for my 1997 flstf. As I want to replace the digital odometer with analog if I can find a way. Yet Another very good video Mr.Laidlaw. Keep them coming. tcrs

FXR was discontinued because it's slumping sales. People didn't like the frame or the rubber mounted motor, as well as the limited transmission options. They wanted something more traditional apparently they didn't care about handling. They can be purchased for incredibly cheap in the early 90s. I bought my first FXR in 99, and to this day it is the best Harley I ever bought
