i began taking video after many years of still photography, and I was always frustrated by the limitations of film. I always wanted to take more. For cost reasons, typically I would limit myself to three 36-exposure rolls of film a day, carefully loaded so I got 37x3=111. Suddenly, with a video camera in hand, I was gleeful at the concept of taking 30 frames a second (actually 60 half-resolution frames... - any frame doubling equipment still out there?), So I set about recording things and really got into it. Burning through four cameras from 1990-93, I had to stop taking video for a while since I couldn't afford to keep buying expensive equipment (post-bubble era, etc.). I stored the tapes in a closet and wondered if I'd ever actually be able to do something with the sleeping material on them. Then computers got better and better and finally I was able to digitize the material and here we are. As for the sound, while the picture was analog and the CCD image sensor only had about 410,000 pixels, the sound was digital - referred to as PCM audio at the time (pulse code modulated). The camera I used was referred to as a "prosumer" model, meaning it fell somewhere between cheap consumer-level junk and high quality professional gear.
