1991 Nissan Sentra GXE (Sunny/Tsuru/B13) - MotorWeek Retro
The sedan featured the fuel-injected 110-126 hp (94 kW) and 108 pound-feet (146 N⋅m) 1.6-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder GA16DE engine. It came in the base model, E, XE, SE, and GXE. The GXE came with a power package such as power windows/locks/mirrors while the XE, SE, SE-R came with standard or optional sunroof and alloy wheels. Four-door models came with front motorized shoulder seat belts. The short-lived three-door hatchback of the B12 Sentra was not replaced in this generation, and the sporting coupé version was replaced by the ovoid Nissan NX.
For the 1992 model year (August 1991 - July 1992 production), a passenger's side vanity mirror and black body-side moldings became standard on the Sentra 2-door. The Value Option Package (air conditioning, cruise control, and a stereo system) was extended to SE models. The optional three-speed automatic in the E coupe was dropped and gained an optional 4-speed automatic, shared with other models

in the Philippines, we have received a 1.3L DOHC GA13DS known as the LEC and LECPS trim, 1.4L DOHC GA14DS as the JX, and the ECCS model GA16DE engine or the Super Saloon trim.

@@user-wv6mx8dr1f In the U.S., the 1.6 is the base model and 2.0 is the higher end one....at least for the 4th generation, this is the third. I own a 98 1.6 manual.
This Sentra was the best version ever. It actually equaled and exceeded the Corolla of this generation.

Yea, but not the Civic.
These had great engines. The SER was ahead of it's time.
Always did admire this generation, and still do

Mexico really took that admiration to the next level, and I don't blame them!
Awww they thanked their viewers with a custom number plate! I love it, TY Motorweek! 🥰
Almost 40mpg in '91...without a hybrid set up!!!

@@peterjamieson2441 just lack of safety tech and thin metal...but that thin metal gave it the great MPG, like the old Honda CRX.
Purchased a 2 door XE in April, 1992 after graduating college. Loved it, and fun to drive with the 5 spd. Great review as always from MW. Thanks for posting.

You can get the base model Versa with a manual transmission. The Versa is basically the modern day equivalent of the Sentra of the 90s and before.
0-60 in what?! Legend has that it is still accelerating.
Back in 1994 Trying to Buy a Loaded Sentra GXE with Sun Roof ABS Cassette CD in was Super Hard in 94, Wait 3 months to Built One Try Come From Japan not Tennessee
Didn't these stay in production for the Mexican market until about 7 or 8 years ago??? Anyways hell of a run for rather bland but very well built Japanese econobox.
Don't like the power steering? Get an E model! Power steering-free! :) Seriously love the B13 Sentra. Had a base E model for a bit and it was so fun. I'd love another B13.
NEVER BEEN TO MEXICO... BUT ISN'T EVERY CAB/TAXI A NISSAN SENTRA... I COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG?

Although the engine is different in the 4th gen that came after these 3rd gens, I swear it sounds the same, just bought a 98 Sentra 1.6 manual and it sounds just like the 91 here 2:10
在台灣俗稱331,當年的熱賣款
Wish it had a 1.8 dohc engine instead of 1.6. The base model.
The XE's seats were not nearly as nice. Pretty much everything else was the same though. Rusted too easily along the rocker panels. But pretty good car! Quite reliable.

i drove a 91 xe 2 door 5 speed manual for 27 years, the front suspension arms rusting away were what made me have to finally get rid of it, very sad because the engine still ran like a champ and it had no major issues other than the rust. it was insanely reliable over the years and pretty cheap to fix when it did have problems. the seat cover material of my XE was indeed different than the GXE model shown in this video but the i think the seats of my XE were more comfortable for long distance driving than newer mid-range car seats are. kind of wish i would have kept those seats and turned one into my office desk chair lol
