Greatest match I have ever watched. Almost 30 years have passed and I still have never forgotten it. A great comeback and a soccer crowd

perhaps the only tennis video in existence where you’d watch it despite the sound disjoint, if only to see the excitement one more time

I blew off work that day to watch the whole thing. Hands down as good as it gets in any sport! Love Jimmy saying right before the tie breaker...."this is what they want!"

@@spirg Yeah unfortunately , even if Courier won , I just wish it would have been closer . Connors was out of gas by that point from those long matches .

Great question. Connors has done more for the sport in the past 50 years than any other player, and it's not even debatable. He changed the entire culture ( fist pump inventor, talking to fans in the crowd, strutting around the court after winning big points, etc), AND......Jimmy Connors is the guy who is mostly responsible for the BIG PRIZE MONEY in the sport. Connors famously declared that his blood and sweat that he left on the court to win a tournament was worth far, far more money than the tiny cash prizes of 15 or 20 grand and such...

Two years before, he clobbered Edberg and should've beaten Agassi. That match went five sets.

Hits the ball flat as Don Budge did. Hard for others to handle.

Have you seen Jimmy play in the flesh? His style is easier to examine live rather than on the screen. I knew he hit the ball low (and flat) but it was so low that each ball looked as though it was heading for the middle of the net. Somehow it went over. Whereas other players tend to hit the ball up and over. His downward angle technique gave him the control. Plus the fast, hard pace.

Connors has emotional anger. Kyrgios has that I don't give a shit with anger. But kyrgios anger looks stupid. Connors and McEnroe temper and anger looks entertaining and cool. I'd prefer Mac and jimmys passionate anger. It's what tennis I grew up with.

Hi Ron, I heard about it but are they really 'friends'? They were friends BEFORE the match as Aaron trained at Jimmy's home, I understand. After the infamous match, Aaron didn't talk to Jimmy again! Let's put it this way...if Aaron wins the infamous match, Aaron can look Jimmy in the eye. But he can't because Jimmy carried on in a way which Aaron lost all respect for Jimmy. Personally, I think Jimmy was in the wrong for his on-court antics. It was no longer one-on-one. Connors got 20,000 cheering for himself and booing against the opponent. To me, that's WRONG. What do you think? I wouldn't do that to an opponent because it's unfair play.

During the final tie-break, I don’t see anywhere where Jimmy misbehaved. I like Jimmy because he is all business during all his matches whether it’s the first round or the final. He is one of the most competitive tennis players ever. He deserves all accolades and all the trophies he had won.
