1991 - Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame - Induction of Jackie McGee

Ойын-сауық

This video includes the induction dance performed by Jackie McGee at the Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 1991. She is dancing with her husband, Charlie Womble. The event was held at the "new" Sand Flea Beach Club in Greenville, SC.
The Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame was originated by Rick Hubbard during 1983 when he got together with Harry Driver and others with his idea to recognize those original and noteworthy shaggers from Ocean Drive. Rick was also the owner of the Sand Flea Beach Club where these early events were held. Lots of great shagging from those who were there in the beginning...

    I just love watching Charlie and Jackie dance. Their style of dancing is the most entertaining for me to watch because it looks sooooo smooth and sexy. So glad I came across this wonderful dancing couple as I watch them in video's over their dancing years.

    A few months ago my wife and I were at Fat Harold's during SOS week (Myrtle Beach,SC) and experienced shag dancing as it exists. Met several really fun and welcoming people. The next morning, we returned to Fat Harold's to attend Jackie and Charlie's dance lesson sessions. We mistakenly thought the lesson was for beginners, so we were immediately thrown over our heads. But, despite the 80+ people attending Jackie sensed our incapacity to follow along and took the time to give us some immediate short private lesson time. After the session, another local couple took us in hand and gave us a 20 minute intro lesson. These people are great. Fun, welcoming, and competent. Now we can say that we received lessons from the world champions in shag dancing!!!

    Please speak only for yourselves!!! There are many many of us who enjoy dancing Shag and watching it!! You, who keep criticising, do not know a thing about the history of this dance. It just keeps getting better!! Just give it up...if you don't have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself! If you knew how to dance like this, then you would be qualified to give constructive criticism.

    Thats what makes the dance so smooth and sexy, focused on the legs and hips or would be jerky like Rock and Roll!

  • @donbaxley5530
    @donbaxley55307 жыл бұрын

    I think I figured out what is wrong with this dance? Way too much foot work making the legs take the main frame, That is why it looks so funny and most people do not care for it! You need more head and shoulder posture, That is where this style of dance fails!

    Yes Don, you know so much about dancing, but you must have been down in bed with a reoccurring case of knoitallitis, as I did not see you there that night. Be careful, once it starts, it is hard to get over. There is a difference between being a purposeful critic and being a critical person with no purpose. I hope you improve.
