1990s traffic is great because you get the contrast of the big american car next to the small econoboxes and it looks awesome. So many JDM fans and malaise fans would bathe in these cars.

What surprises me the most is the total lack of pick-up trucks and suvs, just some small sedans and that's it

Why did civilian cars look so plain jane back then?? This is not the only footage I've noticed this. Most of the paint jobs are dull. And they're just not a lot of nice cars from what I notice. Today you'll see Hellcats, Mercedes up the ass. BMW. All of it. Not saying that's the only type of cars you see but still. Kinda weird

Interesting. Back then, people were more willing to buy from American luxury brands such as Buick/Cadillac/Lincoln etc. Financing for a expensive car was more difficult back then too than it was now, and Chicago in general was cheaper to live in. Regardless, you can still see a good amount of Mercedes and BMWs in the footage, as well as some sports cars such as the Dodge daytona, the late 80s equivalent of a hellcat (or as close as you will get to one). Interesting you comment on the car color too. Cars back then had a lot more color variety, most car today are 3 colors, white, gray and black. I'm guessing your referring to why the colors look so muted, I'm guessing it's just because of the camera itself

@@mrsaulthegreat "Cars back then had a lot more color variety, most car today are 3 colors, white, gray and black." It's not because of the camera. The 6 dominant car colors seen in this video (black, gray, burgundy, red, white and silver) were always the norm since the 80's. Those colors are the standard for average car dealers. There *was* a little more variety in color in the 20th Century, but most people kept it basic. And in some countries like Japan and South Korea, you only get to choose either black or white.

@Please Stop Me "Today you'll see Hellcats, Mercedes up the ass. BMW." Nah, those types of cars are the minority. Cars today are more 'Plain Jane' than ever before, and a lot of the vehicles I see now are very small, ugly and European-looking. Especially the cabs, those minivan cabs are downright hideous. And those bulky new cop-cars look so intimidating, like something out of Transformers. "Not a lot of nice cars" Those 1980's Chevy Impalas are considered one of the most gangsta cars in Hip Hop culture and they're often tricked-out with big chrome rims.

Foreign car brands didn’t really make up a reasonable chunk of the American market until the late 90s. Personally i feel cars were more colorful back then, now most of the new cars i see are black or white
