Do you remember the excitement of tearing open your first pack of 1990 Topps football cards?
If you do … well, you may be in the minority there.
See, by 1990, the gridiron card game was changing - had changed, in fact.
By that point, Topps had lost its monopoly and was joined in the field by Score … and Pro Set … and Fleer. Plenty of choices meant a company really had to stand out to get anywhere.
And, while that 1990 Topps set was fine, it was very Topps-y, with a solid-but-not-exciting design and few true big-name rookie cards.

Oh, and there were more than enough 1990 Topps cards to go around - still are, in most cases - though, in retrospect, probably not as many as their competitors pumped out.
All of those factors have helped this set maintain a low hobby profile over the years, especially on the value front.
But that doesn’t mean all the 1990 Topps cards are worthless - condition and player are key.
With all that in mind, here are the most valuable 1990 Topps football cards, as gleened from recent eBay sales of specimens in PSA 10 (GEM MT) condition.

I think this was the last football set I collected before college, etc. Once Sweetness retired, it took me awhile to get "into" football again. Lots of star power here, though, even if the cards were abundantly available.

I had a shit ton of old 60’s and up really great cards all hard cased. I made the mistake of putting them in a brown paper bag under my bed when i was 14 years old and one day my dad went down to my room and some how thru away that bag thinking it was trash. He basically threw thousands of dollars into the garbage. I am still really pissed to this day. I will never be able to get over it 🤦♀️ I really hope someone found in the dump and their not lost forever

I hope they found them, too! My dad was never a collector but used to tell me how he bought cards in the early 1950s just to get the gum -- and he *always* threw out the cards. He loved to see me squirm with that one!

From what I know, neither version is actually scarce, though PSA has graded fewer "disclaimer" versions. However, some collectors have reported having the disclaimers rejected by PSA because they are disclaimers, so that would lower the numbers. Overall, someone looking to build a master set would want both versions, but they're mostly just sorta interesting variations. Ebay prices aren't over the top for either version.
