1990's CableTel Promo. became NTL then Virgin Media
25 years ago (about 1995) CableTel came to town and transformed Internet and TV Subscriptions, they claimed the latest Fibre Optic cables but they only reached the box in the street, the cables to the house / router were and stll are Copper Coax. Virgin Media tried to upsell this non fibre cable by marketing it as "DOCSIS x.x" but that is not Fibre Optic.
Other claims in the Promo. Like answering the phone and the Video pops up on TV screen never actually happened.
Many consumers came to HATE the Cable provider (In their various disguises" and many went back to Sky one they also provided ADSL Broadband.
Now skip forward to 2020 and we are now seeing City Fibre digging up our streets again and laying true fibre to the premises often along side the 25 year old CableTel infrastructure (now Virgin Media), Marketed as UpTo 1GBps it will be sold initially by Vodafone and should provide some much needed competition to the existing offerings and hopefully help to keep prices down.
With the introduction of Mobile 5G things should now finally start hotting up in the broadband speed stakes.

My God, didn't that just hit my nostalgia levels I was 8 when I had this
I remember this promo on a VHS tape being being put through letterboxes in my area at the time, I watched it with my friend and we couldn't stop laughing at the scene around 1.15 in which was the driver's reaction in the Cabletel van when he saw the guy on the motorbike, acting at its worst!

Um, WHAT? He just smiles and shakes his head. How could you possibly define that as GOOD or BAD acting? I don't think even the most accomplished acting teachers could ever judge someone's acting just on a smile and the shake of the head.
How many channels were rebroadcast in NICAM Digital Stereo from satellite? Many Astra Intelsat and Eutelsat satellite channels broadcast 2 channel stereo using the Wegener Panda 1 audio channels 7.02 / 7.20 MHz plus carried mono and stereo radio stations using the remaining audio subcarriers 7.38 to 8.28 MHz. Some cable networks offered these stereo satellite soundtracks either as a NICAM Stereo encoded signal sent to a NICAM Stereo VCR and NICAN Stereo TV, or offered them as FM Stereo radio frequencies on the cable system's FM programme service using a hifi system or tuner connected to the cable system.
It was Diamond Cable here in Leicester before NTL took them over
I had Cable Tel myself from March 1997 (analogue) then from 2000 or maybe 2001 we moved to the digital service we soon moved to Sky then moved back to NTL(it was Virgin Media by that point) but it wasn't so good so I went back to Sky and I've been with them ever since

Stay with Sky. We were with Nynex back in 1998 who then went NTL to Virgin. Been atrocious since 2016 bills £90 a month when our new Sky is £39 also Virgin have oversubscribed the area leading to less than 1mbps download speeds after 7pm
Hold on first was CABLETEL,then NTL THEN BLUEYONDER before VIRGIN,and in Basildon it was under ASTRA piped ,I Blackburn area had ASTRA too.

Blueyonder was the portal and ISP of Telewest, it was called Cable Inet before that and served several cable companies dial up internet, it was like a shared service because there was many small cable companies and the internet was in its infancy then. AOL dial up was also available on Cable phone lines as well as Mercury’s (C&W) dial up. 3 cable companies actually merged with C&W and NTL bought it in 2000
