Awesome chat. I do recall a Batman TV spot where the showed empty streets with a voiceover asking where is everyone. And then cut to a Batman poster. I am certain of that but I may be dreaming

I didn't realize cinemas being open on Christmas wasn't as common in the U.K. as in the U.S. Christmas day 1993 I had to work at the cinema down the street from where I grew up. I was 16, it was my first job and I had only been working there a couple of weeks. I remember it because we were showing 'Tombstone' for the first time, which had a Christmas Day opening in the U.S.

Alex Thompson's photography on Leviathan matches Dean Cundey's low level lighting on The Thing with near perfection. Thompson was a remarkable and extremely versatile technician with lighting sets. Even Alien 3 has remarkable lighting throughtout the films run time. Just sucks that Britain doesn't produce the calibre of cinematographer like this anymore....

I saw Ghostbusters 2 as a 6 year old with my parents whilst my grandparents went seeing Shirley Valentine. Little Mermaid was 1990 over here but I do remember seeing a re-release some time of Lady and the Tramp. Fantastic discussion.

Forgot mention this before but Jaws 3D came out in proper 3D Bluray in a boxset with 2 and 4. Friday the 13th part 3 was released on a region A disc as part of the big boxset from about 4 years back or so. It was also proper 3D. You can watch 3D films with the first PlayStation VR headset but not the second.

Yeah, ILM had their hands full in 1989 with Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters 2, The Abyss, & BTTF 2. No chance Star Trek V was wedging in there amongst all the other problems on that one stemming from the writers' strike and Shatner's difficulties on set. Too bad they couldn't court Boss Film with Richard Edlund. He could've done some stunning work, but Paramount was trying to cut costs and paid for it. And Fright Night Part II is still entangled to some degree. CineMuseum in Italy announced last year that they were doing an official release, but it was tentatively scheduled for release last month. Yet, there's been no word on it for the last year. They tried acquiring a print of it from a collector for a 4K scan, but they never were able to establish contact. I do have a widescreen rip of it, but I'd like a proper release sooner than later. It's actually better than memory gave it credit for. Both Menendez brothers are still serving life sentences for their capital crime that affected that film's release. I did go on Back to the Future: The Ride in 1993 when my family vacationed in Orlando, Florida. I do remember seeing BTTF 2 & 3 theatrically. I'm not too surprised about Manhunter being delayed three years to the UK. De Laurentiis Entertainment Group wasn't in good financial shape, and IMDb says some outfit named Recorded Releasing picked it up for distribution in the UK. It seems a bunch of regional companies grabbed it up in various markets. So, it wasn't like a Universal or 20th Century Fox production that could court international rights easily, especially since it bombed in the US. Tango & Cash was a really wonky production that Stallone helped to keep running on track, more or less. I think that's why Kurt Russell called him up when the original director on Tombstone got fired. The film is a bit up and down with its tone, and goes a bit too over the top at times. Still, it's fun schlock. Seagal did Above The Law in 1988, and then, released both Hard to Kill & Marked For Death in 1990 about six months apart. Hard to Kill is the lesser of the three for me. I grew up watching The Dream Team with Keaton, Christopher Lloyd, Peter Boyle, and Stephen Furst. It's a fun piece of work!
