ALL NEW! Here is a little bonus, the intro to the 1989 Cotton Bowl between The Arkansas Razorbacks and UCLA Bruins! THe clip starts with promos for Murphy Brown and Designing Women and plugs for the Barnum and Bailey Circus, and finally a promo for WCIX (In its second day as a CBS affiliate, The New Channel 6)! Also notable was looking at Tom Landry scouting Troy Aikman weeks before he lost his job.

The build up was the best part of this Cotton Bowl. UCLA edged Arkansas 17-3 in a boring game. The Razorbacks had 42 yards of total offense . . . the entire game.

CBS actually used the theme music to one the broadcast of Super Bowl XXI between the Giants and Broncos before moving it to the College football broadcasts starting with the 1987 season and CBS has used it ever since. In the world of TV almost 30 years for a specific piece of work is beyond remarkable,its almost unheard of.
This is from the 1988-89 TV season, but they used the 1987-88 "This is CBS".
I watched this game on my droid phone the day it was played.
Love the poignancy in this intro.
The only thing I can think of that comes close is ABC/ESPN's MNF theme (Although that one has been rescored)... I think FOX's NFL theme has held up pretty well at 16 seasons as well... :)
Guess where Troy Aikman played for his entire NFL career?
Kinda like the sad end to the classic Orange Bowl games... :(
The Cotton Bowl (the stadium) is a dump these days, but it's still sad that the Cotton Bowl (the game) has moved to JerryWorld.
