Whoever is running the channel nailed it by posting this race. Old CART races from the 80s and 90s are what these Classic Rewind videos should be all about!

80s and 90s were best years of Indycar. The Molson Indy was a huge event compared to today.

Excellent surprise on a Thursday night! I found something puzzling about when Al Jr came to a stop on the track. One of the announcers referenced that if the car was out of fuel they could just tow it back to the pits and put more in. I didn't realize that was allowed. I've been watching racing my whole life. I thought if you ran out of fuel, thats it. That's the way it seems to go on the video games. Michael also got a little lucky there at the end, his move on Emmo could have easily backfired. Not the cleanest of wins. Im sure Emmo was furious and had every right to be.

These old races give me an appreciation for the current announcers, cause it was like these guys had never seen a race before.

I was surprised with this being a 1989 race, where was Paul Page? Or, was this a Canadian production telecast of the race?

Love the no-ad full-race coverage (assume this was Canadian TV...broadcasters were a hot mess...almost funny, like a Christopher Guest movie...) Watching this circuit is always a bit haunting as it's so clear what a dangerous position the track workers are in on that straightaway--eventually a car was coming over that 3' wall, as one of course did in '96 with such tragic results.

The audio isn’t from TV, it was from the Indy Racing Network, and was the group of announcers heard at the track itself. They are stationed at different parts of the track and as the action gets to them they take over from the previous announcer.

I don't know if they mention it, but what is that cool looking pace vehicle that is dark blue in color? Looks like a prototype vehicle with a truck bed. EDIT: Never mind, I found it. It is the Chevrolet XT-2.

I have this on VHS with CBC commentary, featuring Brian Williams. My recollection from being there in 1990 is that these guys were the on-premise public address commentators. You're right, this commentary feed is less than great!

All this talk about dropping Texas next year is unacceptable. If NASCAR wants the spring date, then figure something out. I cannot believe Penske corporation is so successful but cannot figure out how to reschedule a race. Here’s an idea, how about the first week of May? How about early September? Any solution is better than dropping it. I cannot believe one of the few ovals you have is likely gone, but you add a race for elitists. It’s great to know what Indycar thinks of their fanbase.
