If only there was a line-up of programmes this good this Christmas! And I'd give anything for promotions and idents as beautiful as the frog on a train animation these days...

in the last few years I began to look for the 1988 to 1995 xmas idents, because the "modern" idents for the festive season are so sophisticated and bland. Animated toys around the Christmas tree are the best.

@@smallbluemachine Completely agree with you. Watching these old idents (even non xmas ones) they have a warmth, soul and charm about them. Using simple animation with a warm and happy sounding voice over made those idents very appealing and nostalgic when you look back. Now it's bland OTT visuals, a bland and boring sounding male or female voice over and graphics devoid of any soul or xmassy theme of the old fashioned traditional sense. Add to that the woke crap that's being pushed down everyone's throats where every seconds there's an ethnic minority on screen. I like how they gave you a peek of what's to be shown which made it more exciting. Noone records TV anymore (or buys the TV guide in paper form), it's all catch up TV, so in years to come they'd be nothing to look back on because noone recorded anything. I would say things started to change with the idents when digital TV and all the freeview channels were introduced. Having a particular show or film on just the once made it more special, now the same programme or film is shown countless times over several channels. Watching The Snowman for example on Xmas Eve, then it being repeated on Xmas Day then again on Boxing Day just ruins it for me.

@@Embracing01 yeah, and that OneNess crap in Virtual Meetings squares!. Watched the New Years junctions for 2001 and they were bland. This one really warms the heart and got me all excited for Christmas, I remember it like yesterday.

@@marcuslavaggi-bowen6539 I agree. Everything BBC and TV is Oneness these days. Now it's all woke crap.

This was when I was 4 and I had a Fireman Sam clock and annual, a Park in the Dark book and a light purple Goldilocks book, a Santa bear and a black and yellow crane.

I remember that frog riding on the train like it was yesterday. Back then you had Only Fools and Horses and quality films to look forward to, now it’s hour specials of all the tripe we’ve seen all year and are nothing special.

The only fools and horses christmas special from that year was the jolly boys outing. The man in the dark suit is Steven, Cassandra's boss. At the end, Rodney punched him in the nose!!
