1988 SPECIAL REPORT: "TEEN RUNAWAYS"

No teenager ever aspires to become homeless, running from the very people who were supposed to care and protect him. However, 1.6 to 2.8 million teens runaway from home each year, according to the National Runaway Switchboard. Many of these teenagers are abused sexually, physically and emotionally. They run for safety but instead end up fleeing right into an abyss of dangerous predators seeking vulnerable youth who only yearn for the comfort of a caring body.

I definitely feel like running away, or run away teens, are not as common as it use to be in the 80s/90s. I remember it was actually like a trend to run away & "show them" when I was a kid in the late 90s.

My heart broke at 22:36. I've been told that by "parents", who I've asked if it was ok that their child stayed in my home. It's shocking. Sometimes, all it takes is an adult, who a child can trust, to really listen. I realize that not all of them can be helped, and early intervention is the key. As a society, we need to give it an honest try. I have 23 non-bios that call me "Momma Karen". I won't ever stop loving any of them. Tell your family & friends you love them. No one is promised tomorrow. Be blessed, today and always. =)
