    I tear up a bit thinking about how excited we were to get Derrick Thomas. I loved Cherry and Smith. 1989 i went to 3 games in Arrowhead and 1 in Denver. I was 18 years old and spent ever dime i earned working to watch my chiefs. I take my sons to games now days. Its been a long bumpy road as a chiefs fan. In 79 i watched my first chiefs game and fell in love. The power and fight of the men in red was like a magnet for my soul. THAT YOU CLARK HUNT FOR GETTING THIS 2019 TEAM TOGETHER ! YOU ARE THE KING OF THE KINGDOM !!!!!

    Well then Albert Lewis and Neil Smith certainly deserve serious consideration also. The NFL HOF has a bias against certain teams.

    Exactly, he was the "Air Traffic Controller" of the AFC during the 80's. Along with Ross, Lewis, and Burruss, the Chiefs had the best secondary in football from the mid eighties to early nineties. They were the original "Legion of Boom". Although they had some good players on the DL (Mike Bell, Bill Maas, Art Still, and Neil Smith), they didn't have that Lawrence Taylor type of LB that could do it all (stop the run, rush the QB, and play pass defense). Dino Hackett was a beast against the run but that wasn't enough. It all changed and finally came together when they drafted Derrick Thomas back in 89. He was the missing link to their very talented defense. Yeah, You can say I was one of the few Chiefs fans from the East Coast back in the day. By the way, I'm still pissed at that bogus holding call on Mike Webster against the Dolphins during the 1990 AFC Wildcard game. That was their year.

    @@MGAF688 To the NFL HOF one of the main criteria for inclusion is if you played the majority of your carrier with the Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Packers, or Giants. Teams like the Chiefs, Dolphins, Bills, Bengals, and Oilers/Titans don’t matter, those are AFL teams.

    HAHA, yea these team yearbooks are so biased & slanted toward whatever given team you're watching. They just forget and overlook the previous season they're covering if it was a bad year. If you watch these Chiefs yearbooks in succession from 86-89 you'll see how Lenny Dawson (narrating, I know he's not the script writer) sells it hard that THAT given team is ready to win a championship.

    The 1988 Chiefs weren't as bad as their record indicated. They lost a TON of close games- very rarely did they get blown off the field. And they did beat the SB-bound Bengals, so clearly they weren't as dreadful as their draft position indicated.

  • @brothermichael8442

    Yeah, the only blow out was against Seattle. The Chiefs had a really good defense and enough play-makers on offense to assume that the main issue with the team was the main reason for most team's lack of success. The QB.

    They lost 6 -3 to the Browns, 7-6 to the Lions and Oilers, one point to the Chargers, and had a tie with the Jets. They could of easily won all four of those games. If they would of won those games and a few others nail biters that year, they would of easily made the playoffs that back in 88.

    Why did the chiefs play the jets twice in 1988?

  • @G0Chiefs

    @G0Chiefs

    6 жыл бұрын

    Uneven divisions in those days. 28 teams and 3 divisions in each conference meant that there were two 5 team divisions and one 4 team division in each conference. The chiefs and jets finished last in their divisions in '87 so the inter conference part of the schedule was different for the 5 team divisions last place teams. The chiefs and jets played the last place finishers from the NFC's 5 team divisions which was only 2 games so they played each other twice to make up for it.
