Warning for those plastic bowls and vro's. Found out that they get tiny cracks and du the old age they get not flat anymore so they leak. I replaced them with alu one's from older engine. They sel only the alu ones and cost a fortune. Also needed new low speed orfices that fit. Also the vro gets tiny cracks du to age in the plastic. Nice Vid's keep them coming learned a lot

Great video! I have a 1990 40 vro that I recently removed the vro and went with a genuine johnson fuel pump, mounted on the head. It runs great on the muffs in the driveway but bogs in the water under load. Compression is decent, 97 on both cylinders, good spark. Complete rebuild on both carbs. Idles great in the water and will move forward until I get to about half throttle, then bogs..cannot figure it out!

AZ boy here! Keep the late 80's early 90's Evinrude Johnson 90 videos coming! Just bought a boat with 95 Evinrude 90 and need these videos. You do a great job explaining and your video quality is good. Motor was running fine for last month on hose. Got everything buttoned up and went out to the lake two days ago and couldn't get her to start. I have spark and fuel so now I'm stumped. It ran 4 days ago on the hose fine... Thinking it has to be carbs.

@@mykarmaxspired5771 It could be many different things for you. For me it was water in the gas. You need to verify spark and fuel flow. If you have those two and still nothing I would pull a sample of fuel from your tank. Let it sit in a see through container, milk carton, water jug, something see through. After 20 or 30 minutes you'll be able to see if you have water in your gas.

Sir you are a king of men on Johnson and evinrudes. I need a fuel manifold for a 1990 60 Johnson that I done a complete rebuild and deleted the vro. My fuel manifold is broken and would appreciate any information on locating another one or information on how to making something that will replace it. Just bought a 2005 Tracker 21' Suntracker pontoon boat. Previous owner down the line put a 1988 Johnson 90 VRO V4 (J90TLCCA) on it. Good so far. But I discovered the VRO was removed (OK with that after watching your video). We will drain the fuel tank and add a fresh premixed fuel that I have faith in. What is the suggested ratio? There is also NO FUEL FILTER. Guessing one should be added above or below the squeeze ball? All the advice I can get for this novice is appreciated.

Choke solenoid or primer solenoid? Mine has the primer solenoid on 1998 Johnson 115hp. And I don't like it, but it does work. I have learned that the key thing is to make sure and get a good prime on your primer bulb, with the bulb pointed upwards by the up arrow on the bulb. Seen that on dangar marine, and yes it works

1992 60 hp evinrude here, VRO failed, a top end had to be rebuilt. They are junk, better off premixing for some peace of mind. Can you mention wiring to VRO, there is a warning circuit that needs to be bypassed I believe. I like your swap, how much was that fuel pump?

I have the same motor in a 91 and redid all fuel lines, rebuilt carbs, general fall cleaning/tune up... there's a fuel line (vent line from main bearing cavity?) that I took for granted. I have the full manual set and managed to still stump myself. #66 I think in SELOC Service manual. Tempted just to let it hang but I think it maybe reintroduce unburned/pooled fuel to carbs. Feeling pretty stupid right now.... where did I put my glasses??

Hi there. I am from Australia We had a 80's model 140hp evinrude outboard that kept leaning out on the lowest cylinder. Had the motor and carbies rebuilt 3 times by two different mechanics but kept on doing it within an hour of each use. Mechanics both put their hands up and said they dont know what was going on. Ended up out of pocket a lot of money and no one seemed to know what was happening. Just wondering after watching your videos if you may know what was happening. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean the one laying on the bottom going back into the block? That attaches to the bottom of the air box. It just re-circulates fuel that spills from the carbs back into the engine. If you've noticed some fuel leaking, that being disconnected is probably why.

I didn't think anyone would catch that. 6 people to oversee that exchange. 5 of which were saying No. The lady had her tool return policy flip card, which was a picture of a type of tool, and little bubbles giving the return requirements. Turns out the wording on the packaging says "Socket Bits" They were saying the return policy on drill bits is 30 days with receipt. My argument was it was a socket, not a drill bit. (Socket warranty is lifetime, no receipt) They kept saying no, its a bit, no its not a socket. My reply was something like- you are seriously telling me that this tool, which is made to go into a ratchet, is closer to a drill bit than a socket, even though the original packaging clearly says lifetime warranty , hassle free returns. ....and that was after I got past "the return is through Kobalt, not Lowes" However, one good thing from that 2 hour ordeal; I now know that drill bits are good for 30 days. Next time I need to drill 50 holes into some 1/4" steel, I'm buying a bit from them, abusing the heck out of it, and going back for a new one.

Hi all. I have 1989 Johnson 70 hp. The motor runs ok. Idling surge up and down. I have check the compression and top cylinder 110 psi, middle cylinder 100 and the bottom cylinder is 75 psi. I replaced the head gasket and I noticed the cylinder wall of both middle and bottom cylinders are rough to the touch. It's and runs but can I use the motor as is? Not planning to fix it. Please give me your thoughts on this one. Thanks

You can run your motor as is BUT it's going to leave you stranded paddling. What caused the loss of compression will finish off the motor. Seals likely need replacing and the cause but not always. Find the cause replace the pistons with the next larger bore.

Serious question… Right now I have an electric fuel pump on my fuel tank in place of a primer bulb. My VRO pump had the oil delete done to it. Can I remove the VRO pump completely and plug the holes? I would only be using my electric pump then. I know that relying on an electric pump ONLY is a bad idea. I’m just curious.

If you could help me with a question I would really appreciate it. at kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6qck7WclKa_iM4.html or 5min55sec in, to the far left of your hand there is a stop nut and a thumb wheel on what the manual calls the throttle shaft, the part I'm talking about is called the Yoke and Thumb wheel according to the book. Anyway, I just bought a boat with the same motor, rather an 89 Johnson Pro Tracker 90hp, same motor. In the water it idled kind of low, and would stall as soon as I put it in gear, After some looking things over I adjusted that thumb wheel until the idle was high enough to go into gear without any issues and the boar seems to be running great! Anyway, is that thumb wheel actually the throttle adjustment for idle? Did I do the correct thing. I would love to heard from you. Thanks!
