really shows you that modern james was singing just as hard as his yunger days all he lost was that signature piercing snarl but the power was always there, makes me appreciate him more than ever

he always sang giving 100% in the studio, but obviously voice tone changes with age, not necesarily worsens but in james' case it became deeper and a little more nasal.

@@metaleverywhere7148he sounds way better now than he did in the DM days and has some more grit in his voice. I would go as far to say that he’s an actual singer now.

Het's 88 vocals are the sound of James mourning the loss of his dear friend Cliff. Locked in his fury, his guilt and his grief. Blaming himself. Blaming the world. Hating everything that took his best friend away and hating the pain it's left him with. I think that's why his '88 vocals are tonally relatable to anyone who's been through hell.

I knew DM was a solid album when I thought that the only thing I’d change about it was the vocals. And now, well, these videos have revealed that DM should’ve been the bridge between the Justice and Black albums. This technology has potential to be dangerous, but it has potential to be FUN. This is one of the coolest things ever, seriously

@@kalebpost20 No I wouldn't. James' voice is amazing on every album, and he wrote the lyrics and melody according to his voice at said time. This is awesome, but I would take actual old James singing this song any day.

Technically, James' voice on the first four albums were aided by double tracking, echo, and reverb. Now, James' voice is stronger and more trained to stand on its own almost like an instrument. James has made the smart choice of saving his voice for the studio when performing live, but every now and then you hear his old voice creeping out. In the studio, James always gives his all/100%.

No distortion? He has distortion on every track. Really, he does on every single album. The difference is how he is achieving that distortion. On the classic albums, he is singing a lot more from his throat which is pretty dangerous. After he hurt his voice, he started using the correct technique using false vocal cords. More compression than straining the throat. The bad way just sounds better! Same thing happened with Dethklok. He's using improper technique on the first album then does it the right way on subsequent releases.

it sounds good but a bit off, and its because of the fact that all james' vocals from. the first 4 albums including justice were double tracked, i mean 2 vocal takes merged together, obviously when making an AI it would sound like those 2 voices are singing exactly the same way, a thing that obviously doesnt happen in doubled vocal takes, i think this would work better with a model trained with only black album vocals, which is were james started singing with a single "potent" vocal take.

  • @djusgar

Black album vocals are a lot more toned down and calm than AJFA vocals, which is why I didn't use them for my Hetfield model. The clean parts of this song do sound pretty off, but I don't think there's a good solution to clean sections with AJFA vocals.
