In 1986 I had a tricked out BMX bike but after seeing freestyle I just had to do that, so I worked all summer at my dad's body shop sweeping floors and fetching cheeseburgers for lunch... At the end of the summer I had the $300 dollars needed to get my dream bike, a Kuwahara Freestyle Bike. All the bike shops in the West Los Angeles area were only being allowed 2 Kuwahara bikes each (not sure why) one BMX and one Freestyle... I show up to buy my bike and they had the two, a dayglow green BMX and a Hot Pink Freestyle, I wasn't that excited about the hot pink but I'd have to wait a few weeks or more for a different color to come in... I wasn't waiting! So off I went on my new Hot Pink Kuwahara. I remember riding down my street for the first time and all the kids pointing and in shock at my new bike, I was the talk of the neighborhood, everyone wanted to ride it. Soon after another kid two blocks away bought the green BMX one and we were the Kuwahara Bros. It was my pride and joy until it got stolen in 1989. A few years ago I found a Day Glow green Diamondback freestyle bike from 1986 at a thrift store for $60, it now sits in my sons room and brings back great memories of my past... Good Times indeed!

I used to get all my parts and stuff at the Evans Bros. Bike Shop. Good times, man...now there's a Rudy's BBQ restaurant where the shop used to be, and a Lowe's Home Improvement right next to it, where the Shannon Jr High School was back in the day.

I love how the opening shots of this video (1987) borrow heavy from the opening shots of RAD (1986).

It’s worth relishing the 80’s BMX freestyle bicycle tricks by various professional riders including kids nonetheless.

Am I the only one to notice that Todd's CW has 2 rear brakes? One cable from each side of the SR Spintech goes to either brake. Its the same principle of 2 separate cables going to a center pull 990 type brake today.Except today u dont need any more braking power than a center pull 990 type brake. But way back when this was made the brakes was the weak point of the bike.Meaning they didnt stop u very well making tricks hard.To be quite accurate they downright sucked. Damn he is also running a coaster brake.3 rear brakes
