1987 Buick Grand National (Regal T-Type Turbo) Start Up, Exhaust, and In Depth Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

**I made an editing error at the beginning. Thanks a bunch to Streetside Classics of Charlotte, NC for allowing me to film this video!
Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! KZread's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth look at the understated muscle car of the late 80s, the Buick Grand National, this one specifically the Regal T-Type. The GN and the T-Type are identical except for badging and interior trim. It wasn't until you stepped it on up to the GNX did you get the truly different package (which I will explain in the video). The GN is arguably the most menacing looking buick of all time with it's black monochrome paint scheme and turbo charged 3.8 V6 pumping out amazing performance numbers for the time period, even today! A unique experience to be able to check out one of these beasts. During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth reviews/tour of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Basically, this gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without going to an actual dealer yourself! Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. I film all types of vehicles from past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. I wanted to share my love for the automotive world with the rest of the world. Be sure to explore the massive video variety, have fun and enjoy The Driver's Seat of KZread!

People, enjoy these cars while they still exist. They are the last of the true American muscle, with the classic GM chime/interior and the legendary Buick V6. There will not be another car like this ever. Screw the haters, I love the looks of the car and most of you watching can probably agree- nothing this badass has ever come out of GM's doors since!

i've always been impressed by the 86 and 87 grand nationals, not just because they were the fastest american production cars of an entire decade, but because they actually sound great too. i've never heard a factory v6 sound this close to a v8 when idling and cruising.

Ahhhh yes sir but Lord Vader would really want an authentic Grand National. He would really want a GNX but will settle for a GN. However, certainly not just the T-Type disguised as a GN. And not too well at that!

@JT. This car isn't disguising itself as a GN. A Turbo-T with the WE4 package got the full blackout treatment minus the GN badging and decklid spoiler. It was also about 300 lbs. lighter than a GN with aluminium wheels, bumper braces, and rear drums. All of which made it faster than a "true" GN.

In a good state of tune, the 86-87 Turbo Regals put out 265-275 horsepower. The GNX actually put out well over 300. The published horsepower numbers for these cars were a joke. Besides, these engines are torque monsters and that's what made these cars quick from 0-60 and through the quarter mile. Not many cars even today lay down 355-400 lb-ft of torque like these did and those figures are with factory boost settings. They can easily put out 500-600 lb-ft of torque with a few modifications and increased boost settings.

When this car first came out it probably looked so amazing for the first time in the show room. Than you bought it and you were the best of the best. This car told you something just by looking at the front hood and grill. It was mean, lean and bad ass. Till this day it still makes you look bad ass behind the wheel. But their making a new one now so you won't look bad ass anymore. Y'all just look like your driving one of those every day boring compact cars. So in my opinion keep on driving your 87' if you have one.

coololds85 An 87 Buick is certainly not better designed than a 2014 Buick. After 73 the American auto industry (particularly GM) made nothing but underpowered, unreliable crap. I love old cars, I hate crappy cars. Other than its age, nothing about an 87 Buick is "classic." In a couple of years, a 93 Dodge will be considered a "classic" so something being 25+ years old doesn't make it any good.

***** Dude just listen to how pathetic you sound. How can you compare an 87 Buick with a newer Buick? Most of the newer cars will never last close to 10 years and will never amount to anything or be on the road for the next 27 years like this 87 Buick GN or any older car for that point. GM has no competition and most of their cars are killing people. FYI, In 1987, GM weren't making cars with defected power steering systems, faulty accelerators, or brake systems. If you want a new car go buy one and get killed. The 1980s cars were equipped way better because if they weren't than they wouldn't have lasted 25-30 years and still be on the road today. So think about what you just said. Newer cars equipped better than the older cars? The problem with these newer cars are the crap their building in them. Their more focused on adding all these new gadgets or sensors than improving the safety of your car.

I think one thing the younger generation doesn’t realize is, in most cases affordable “performance cars” were averaging 15 second quarter miles and 7 second 0-60’s at the time. Then here comes the intercooled turbo regals running sub 5 second 0-60’s and quarter miles into the 13’s like it was something out of the 21st century. It was such a wild time to own one back in the 80’s. My dad has owned his since it was new back in 87. I was 5 years old when I rode along for the test drive.

Worked at a Buick dealership from 84 to 88. I test drove these on several occasions. Most memorable was when I decided to see what it would do from a dead stop. The acceleration was so smooth at 1st that the tires didn't squeal. In a few seconds, it was up to 45MPH, then shifted into 2nd. The rear tires broke loose so much that the car started to turn sideways. At19 years old driving, someone else's car this scared the crap out of me. It also gave me an amazing respect for these powerful machines.

My grandfather use to have a 1984 Olds Cutlass Supreme......when I was 2 years old I used to help him clean it(Me being short I mostly polished the rims)....,,when I was 7 or 8 I said that I wanted that car because it was a thing of beauty......and because I've always felt attraction for square body cars even more if its a muscle car.

One of the first few cars of the muscle era to show that you don't need 8 cylinders and insane amount of displacement to go like mad. Not personally a fan of muscles, but this Buick is pretty nice. Great noise too.

I'm with you on that. I like a strong 4 or 6-cylinder just as much as a good V8 or bigger. I've had 4-cylinder turbo cars that ran 13-second 1/4 miles, and N/A V6 cars that did the same. There is something to be said for having a big engine that just loafs around at under 2000 rpms on the highway. The Grand Nationals are legendary for upsetting the established order of blow-hard muscle car "v8 only" guys. I like that.

0-60 in 5.9?! That's fast by today's standards and for an 87' that's great gas mileage, great car.

I have the 91 Regal custom (3.8L V6) Still runs strong. Wont buy a new car until it dies. 22 year old car gets excellent gas mileage and still has no major mechanical problems at 114000 miles.

I remember my great grandfather having a white-on-blue Riviera T-Type, which had that same steering wheel, and probably the same 3800 turbo engine. As for the Grand National, I've honestly never seen one on the road that wasn't in at least good condition. It seems that the owners have always known what rare and valuable cars these are.

Love this car; pretty nice for a late 80's with plenty of power and some nice interior I also love the wheels matches the paint and gives it a more aggressive look with fat thick tires
