Love how the commentators talk the batsmen up, saying that they're dangerous, handy, etc, and they get out the next ball. :P

We owe this game to the English men. But then over last 140 years or so this game has grown n expand and throws twists turns surprises that we find it so entertaining. The skills, fitness, discipline, ability to adapt and improvise is something that English team has been inconsistent with. They won this world cup making a mockery of Cricket rules....They were favi in '92 and '87, but never after. Never...

England were a better side than Aus then, and also Border was used to playing the foundation role in tests, the side depended on him so much that he undoubtedly played the same way in ODI's not realising it. But also of course with the advent of 20/20's everything has gone into hyperdrive these days.. strike rates have gone through the roof.

If Dirk Wellham and Greg Ritchie were in our best 6-7 batsmen in the country at that time, just goes to show how weak the standard of cricket was in Australia in the mid-1980's.

@@oinkooink Neither William nor Ritchie were selected in the World Cup final. Besides which, in the lead-up to the 1987 World Cup, Australia's test series results included losses to New Zealand (twice), and England. Undoubtedly the weakest period in Australian cricket history.
