1986 Ford LTD Country Squire LX - US Road Trip: Classic Restos - Series 46

Fletch reflects on his USA trip with his friend and business associate Mark Behr from Shannons. They travelled to the US to pick up a new addition to Mark's American Car Collection and drove across America from Ohio to San Francisco to his car importer.
It was 2016, and the car was a 1978 Mercury Colony Park 'Woody Wagon'.
These trips were a real adventure and as Fletch says "You just never know what to expect, especially with a 50-year-old car. It's a labour of love."
With no trip in 2020, Mark discovered 'Connor' a USA local who undertook a similar cross-country trip from Idaho to Dallas, Texas. A journey of 4,200 miles to pick-up his grandparent's 1986 Ford LTD Country Squire LX.
The LTD was a proud possession of Connor's late grandmother and has been in the family since new. The car had been in a barn for 12-15 years and not driven before Connor decided to get it going again.
Connor shares the story of his road trip from Dalles to Idaho with the 1986 Ford LTD Country Squire LX, including some unexpected problems along the way. He travelled 4,200 miles across ten states in just ten days. He arrived in time to show the restored car to his grandfather and spend Thanksgiving together.
Connor considers the car a family heirloom and a legacy of his grandmother that will remain in the family in her loving memory.

My inlaws at the time were the classic "snow birds" they were both retired and spent about six months in central Florida. They would buy either a LTD Crown Victoria or a huge Mercury Marquis or Town car brand new to travel down there from Southwest Michigan. 😊
I had a 1984 LTD wagon in 1994. That car ran like a dream and looks good.

Very neat n different episode your getting more n more creative. Lucky guy got a call from Fletch . It is so amazing how we get sentimental about a certain n how it can represent a memory of a family member n how like a favorite pet become kind of a member. That wagon was definitely that. I enjoyed the show, Mr. Fletch. For a brief moment in the beginning while you were driving that old Chrysler on the open highway, I thought you were driving across y’all’s Outback. That was until I noticed the mountains in the background and you were driving on the correct side of the road!🤪

Dealers (mechanics) don't like working on the older cars because they aren't loaded with computers that they can plug into and have the on board computer tell them what's actually wrong with it. What would we ever do without error codes?? lol.
I’ve got a Made in Brazil Ford “SR COUNTRY“ only 6 made in the world , SR country is the Bronco short wheelbase made in the 67 - 72 F100 body with factory diesel MWM , 5 speed Clark transmission, Dana 44 rear end , cool video , I used to watch your shows on the communitarian channel back in the days when I used to live in Sydney on the early / middle 2000’s , I’ve always loved your shows all the best from Adelaide south Australia 🇦🇺
This car wasnt the most expensive Ford in 1986. This car was relatively cheap in 1986. About $18,000 then. The mosr expensive Ford would have been either the 1986 Ford Thunderbird Elan or Super Coupe or the Mustang SVO 5.0 V8 or possible the F350 extended bed crew cab with 460 V8.

Hes not much older than I am. We enjoy our ford aerostars in our family. Would love to have both an aerostar and a station wagon. I love Van's and wagons in general. Forget SUV and CUV they bore me. Well at least the newer ones. Funny I see this guy on the ford facebook page and so hearing his voice is kind of cool really.
