1985 Suzuki RM125 Evolution Dirt Bike

Спорт

Here we take a quick look around Chris Kirkbride's very nice 1985 Suzuki RM125 Evolution dirt bike. Chris just recently purchased this machine from another rider and hopes to race it in the coming weeks.

I owned and raced a 85 RM-125 back in 1985. I competed in the 125 intermediate class. The bike handled great and although it didn't have the bottom end like the other brands it sure had as much top end. My bike was ported by R&D Racing and also had a modified stator along with a FMF pipe. I never got pulled by any other bikes. Mine was really fast and i pulled many holeshots on it. The 85 and the 89 RM -125's were my favorite bikes. There are some videos of me racing my 85 RM-125 here on you tube. Just type (Johnny Bonacci suzuki rm-125) in the search bar and they should come up.

That was a really good video. Loved all the different angles of photos & the explanations. Somehow I’ve always just really liked the yellow/blue Suzuki RM’s! That years gold rims really set the colors off in a great way; plus always liked how the seat had the name/number displacement on the back edge. Excellent content, and great video production! Thankyou

...That's right, they don't win in 1985, only all the years from 1975 to 1984 !!!😉😉😉

I had this same bike. I remember it having great rear suspension and a very peaky powerband that only made power at the upper end of the mid-range and top end, but once I got it moving it screamed. Then I traded it in for a 1987 model and only then did I realize just how heavy the full-floater rear suspension setup was. My '87 felt twenty pounds lighter and actually turned unlike the '85.

1981-83 was the transition years single shock and water cooling on all except Husqvarna in 1984. These Suzuki's ruled and rarely broke down. At Nationals in America 125 fastest class lap times in Pro class.

I own a 1984 RM125 that I actually raced and won a District 6 125 Championship on it. I raced it in 1984 and 1985. A total of 36 motos in total with zero DNF’s . A great race bike that fit my style. Great front forks and far and away the best rear suspension of any of the 125’s. The motor made decent mid range but it liked to be revved out to the stops. My bike now sits in as raced condition in my living room.

I also had a 84, I think. Did 84 have drum brake on front before they went disc brake in 85?

I had both and the Honda handled world's better than the Suzuki, but I liked the never-ending revs of the RM.
