I remember that week 6 loss to Chicago at home, which was the NFC Championship Game rematch. The 1984 team was a veteran laden roster and in 1985 they started adding pieces to the roster that ultimately led to SB titles in 1988 & 89.

Hard to believe that the 49ers didn't have a single playoff win from 1985-1987. Similar to Tom Brady and the Patriots from 2008-2010.

Good squad. By season's end though I think Montana, Lott, and Craig were really roughed up. Should have still put up a better fight against the New York Giants on the road though.

It's always tough for a defending Super Bowl Champion to repeat

They had virtually the same roster back from the previous yr, it's just hard repeating, and the ball doesnt bounce your way, they had some weird losses with funny bounces, had they not gotten beat up at the end of the yr, they might have given the Bears a tough rematch in the playoffs if it had happen.

Just a small mention of the GOAT, Jerry Rice. Granted it was his rookie season.

Dwight Clark may not have been the fleetest of foot WR, in fact, he was comparatively pretty slow - but he sure could go up and get the ball. He had a great year in 1985. Great WR.
