I've got this bike too. Watch the top end of the engine. The intake valves are known for being soft and you have to check the gap every 3-4000 miles. They make replacement valves, that's what I'm doing now. The engine is also the same as the mojave atv engine, so you can look there for engine parts also. Awesome bike, they used to use them in the military!

Also, taking the rubber snorkel out of the air box gives it a couple hp :)

I adjusted the valves, I should have made a video on it. I have pictures to do a slide presentation video of it if anyone wants, it's not that hard, actually kinda easy. I'd say use your ear, if they are louder than they should be check it, but you should be able to go a year (5,000 miles) in between checks, if not more. Slappy valves are happy valves in this thing (at least for mine it was).

Awesome bike, nice visual all around on it. I just picked one up in pretty rough condition, but it runs great, minus a couple of things here and there. Glad I found this, it's helping me with visualizing how my bike originally looked, lol! My kickstand was probably mounted wrong by PO, as it doesn't fold completely and when deployed the bike looks like it's about to tip over... damn near gives me a heart attack everytime I use it -_- Is that a license plate light I see wired under the rear fender? Looks like the PO also chopped up the wires coming from the rear... can't wait to get my service manuals!

I have a KLR. I think its an 85 or 86. Great shape (not compared to this one*), Starts up every time for year, but You could pretty much outrun the thing. I can't imagine riding on the road (legally).

+ATCRyderX© out run this bike?? 250cc 6 speed? mine hit 75 MPH in 6th gear on flat road and it wasn't even maxed out yet, I'm just scared to go faster, I start to lift off the bike at that point ha.

the little tank looks like coolant reservoir....

it is, these are liquid cooled, for better or for worse. In my opinion over engineered, 250cc can be air cooled and that is less weight and hassle for the rider. Liquid cooled better for performance so it's a trade off. I can't complain mine ran great.

If it is running better with that coolant bottle unbolted from the bike then something certainly aint right. pal.

I'm pretty sure that's 9,000 miles not 900. The trip odometer has less than 900 miles on it.

I'm pretty sure you don't know how to read the gauges.. The trip odometer is on the bottom.. with 93.4 miles on it. the odometer (on top) is at 888.4 miles. The white wheels are 10ths of a mile.. (like in a car..) Look it up and think about it.. have you ever seen a bike with an odometer that goes up to 100,000 miles.. ?? lol, this is not a car.. Did you give yourself that thumbs up? Anyone who has ridden a bike or driven a car would find your comment funny.
