    I remember the 3 wheel Terra Gators bouncing up and down the roads and in the fields when I was a kid. The only one I've seen used recently has been at our local dirt track. They water the track with it. Judging by the condition of the frame under that bed, I'll pull out one of my favorite sayings from back in the day...that's gonna be the ultimate piece of "farm boy fabrication"! I'm allowed to say that since I'm an old farm boy and I still do a lot of "fabrication" lol!

    The advantage in buying an old machine like this that its comparatively cheaper than putting hours on a new machine or possibly needing a whole new tractor during busy times but not needing a tractor when its quiet, its also a huge benefit having a dedicated machine with a higher capacity.. I would guess that thing with all the work done to it will still come in cheaper than buying a new fert spinner with less payload.

    @@billnlori3149 I'm an owner operator truck driver as well as an old farm kid. I've never owned, or even driven anything with Cat power but, I remember dad and his buddies arguing about the 8v Detroit being better than the 3208 Cat and vice versa. Dad had a GMC General with the 8v92ta Detroit (it's in my shop being restored now) and his friends also had either screamin Jimmys or V-8 Cats. When the 2 stroke Detroit went away, he switched to the 3406 Cat, later the C15 and didn't look back. Except for 1 tractor, I've always run Cummins power. That 1 tractor had a 12.7L 60 series Detroit, which I thought would be an upgrade from my M11 Celect +. The Cummins was only a 370 horse engine while the Detroit was a 500. The torque ratings were the same though and, so was everything else about those 2 tractors (except for the model year). Both were both were Freightliner FLD12064s, Super 10 transmissions and 3.73 rears. With an identical load, that little Cummins would out pull the bigger Detroit until 6th gear (aka 3 hi in the Super 10). After that, we were rolling and the horsepower took over. I didn't keep the Detroit powered tractor any longer than I had to but, I still have the old Cummins powered 'Shaker. It's a backup to the other 4 (all Cummins powered) that I own and my drivers and I all love taking the old girl out to "lube her up" once in a while! I've heard rumors that Cat might be getting back into the on highway market with an engine that will pass emissions without a dpf system. If true, it'll be a game changer and I'll be the FIRST in line to order one!

  • @brucelee64485
    @brucelee644854 жыл бұрын

    Not sure if the 466 is going to be enough horse to pull thing around! Not sure about the Cummins engine but the 3208 Cats were wicked up to around 400 horsepower on the ones with big turbos and jacketed aftercooling attached to the engine that I worked on back in the day. Might want to see if you can find at least a 530, especially if you want to run that air box. I seem to remember that the blower unit sucked up a LOT of horsepower when in operation. Nice find though guys and I look forwards to seeing the end result!

    We've got 3 terragators years 1988, 2003, 2016 and the hop is the biggest thing we hate. Really starts to feel uncomfortable to drive at high speeds. When loaded it isnt as bad but still prevalent.

    what are you talking about? Farmers always get the proper transport permits. We used to use a big extendable pole to get loads of hay on trucks and trailers under power lines hahaha.

    Why not using the stainless steel tank for the solid fertilizer as well? You just need a progressive cavity pump and probably remove some splash-preventers from the tank

    I have buddy that did the opposite to a Rogator. Converted a granular spreader to a spreader.. Guess it was a nightmare!

    Terragators are awesome. They're pretty easy to find in Arkansas. The toys are expensive as hell

    That’s actually a great old terra gator. Our backup 1603 is a similar unit with 555 and 10spd. Unfortunately for you the auto trans sucks up a lot of hp.

    Cummins 555 and 903, good engines back in their day, just not by todays standards 👍👍
