I remember the 250 carbon fibre Armstrong very well. It had previously thrown me off in most of the '84 Grand Prix. I eventually changed the front wheel from 16 to 18 inch then won the next race at Snetterton and finished 2nd here at Oulton. A happier end to what was a rubbish season.
Love this video. Think I bought the same front tyre as Fogarty. Fond memories of Oulton Park, such a beautiful circuit.
I remember this day well. It sounds daft because for some reason I had no idea that it was being filmed - until I saw this for the first time last week. I was one of the marshals that day. I'm the guy with the black hair and moustache that picked up Carl Fogarty (and many others). It was a day that you would never forget. After the race we went to the apex at Lodge to try to find out what had caused so many to fall down. We couldn't see anything there at all. I think that Carl Fogarty was in his second year of racing and was already showing incredible form at Oulton, Aintree and many other places.
Amazing. Bikes and riders filling up the curve and finally someone gets the lack of adhesion flag out. Those were different days indeed. For good and bad. THANKS for sharing!!!
That was an insane race!
Fantastic.
Poor Murray never got it right with Mackenzie. First he was 'Nigel Mackenzie' in the Pro-Am days and now he's from Bolton.... X)
bit of a noticeable difference in bank angles from then to now with modern tyres ....and look at all the armco - unprotected.
When Knickerbrook was a real corner too
Proper race bikes.
I guess someone forgot to turn on the Porsche camera.
