This is actually day 1 (July 6th) of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Box-Offs, not the Trials. The Trials were back on June 6-10, 1984. Just to clarify.

Yep. Didn't know Whitaker had such a tough time making the team. My first coach is coaching Craig Payne here. Payne gave Biggs all he could handle and Biggs was fortunate to get the Decision imo. Both him and the other coach, Dick Quinton are still coaching to this day! Mr. Quinton is 88, and Paul Soucy is 83. I belive the team won 9 or 10 Gold medalist in L.A., of course Russia, Cuba, and some other countries weren't there.

Wow what a gem of a find, many many thanks..I Remember the 84 Olympics and especially the boxing. Holyfield showed his tenacious ability to keep on coming with those famous last hooks, his greatness was showing even in the amateurs. Tyson was unfortunate in this but he sure made up for it, within 4 years he was would Heavyweight champion. Biggs had so much potential but his career was rushed I think. Whittaker was ring genius (RIP the sweet pea) and Meldrick at 17 was the most gifted (So sad he is in such poor condition now) but unfortunately he peaked when a prime Chavez was was at the top. Breland had so much potential, I felt his style and physical frame would been more beneficial if he had been a Kronk gym fighter than going with the Duvas. Also, what a good boxer Tate was, but he just never had that longevity in his career to be a great. Enjoyed this so much.

Both Biggs and Tate fell victim to the streets with drug addiction ruining their boxing careers .

Breland actually did train at krone in the mid 90's towards the end of his career. He was still very impressive in sparring. Not sure if he had any fights representing krone though, or if he just retired.

Probably a dumb question but are the Trials/box-offs for the open public or is this a closed door event just for Boxing/media personnel? I know I'd have to wait a few years but attending this looks like fun.
