If only we could have seen Marino play in today's NFL. Would have been glorious.

This is the first NFL game I ever went to. I was 12. We were visiting family in NYC and my uncle Joe drove me and him out to Shea Stadium to see it. I distinctly remember the boos. My uncle only brought his “mugging wallet” to the game. Just had cash and tickets in it. That was a little terrifying for a kid from Virginia 😂.

Weird seeing Marino in Shea Stadium

I think this was the last game the 'Phins played in Shea Stadium. I'm pretty sure the Jets moved into the Meadowlands for the 1984 Season. Maybe the Nat Moore play where he got "helicoptered" after making a catch was in '84.

The 30 yard laser at the end of the 1st half that's Dan Marino.

Final season Jets played home games at Shea Stadium, TERRIBLE field for football but it was truly the Jets only home field advantage to this day.

Rusty Kuntz Twenty seasons at Shea. Three AFL winning seasons, two AFC winning seasons. Not much in the way of dominance.

Billy Smith Did I say the Jets ever dominated? My point was Shea was a home with Jets fans at least who cared. Once they went to Giants Stadium it never felt like home and there would be many Giants fans in attendance or the opponents fans because of the 76,000 max attendance as opposed to 55,000 in Shea.

@@rustykuntz94 Home Field Advantage is a phrase used to describe level of playing success. That was never an advantage at Shea.

Dolphins running game was AWOL this game......but Richard Todd played worse in this game than he did in AFC Champ game 9 months earlier - and that’s saying something. Don’t think Judson had any other multiple INT games over his Miami career - but snagged 3 from Todd in 1st half. Andrea Franklin really regressed in 1983 - Shula lost confidence in him....4th and goal at half yard line and Shula did not call his power back’s number. Notice the size of Clayton’s shoulder pads in 83 versus 84 season and afterwards. Clayton was not a special teams guy after 83.

And the funny thing about at least 2 of those INT's were he was throwing for Wesley Walker who was an absolute Dolphin KILLER! My Lord, this guy was just as bad as Andre Reed or Thurman Thomas!

Marino’s 2nd career start and 1st on the road. I remember being very nervous for the Fish. Marino was still unproven. How would he be on the road for what I thought would be a hostile environment ? It was the first meeting between these 2 teams after the infamous AFC championship game in the mud. Jet fans were upset over no tarp being put down before that game. So this was the Jets ‘revenge’ game and I thought that would be the storyline in NYC for the game and the fans would be fired up. Strangely, enough that storyline never got played up, the crowd seemed subdued, and Miami won comfortably

Such a shortsighted statement. Applying that viewpoint to other sports means players like Ted Williams also accomplished nothing

I'm talking about the NFL, not Major League Baseball or tiddlywinks, what separates NFL QB's with inflated carer stats like Marino and Favre? Super Bowl Championships which Marino will forever sit at ZERO. Marino is the best QB without a Super Bowl victory on his resume, Joe Namath is in the Professional Football Hall of Fame because he guided the New York Jets to victory in Super Bowl III, if you look at his career stats he was an average to below average QB. Ted Williams only appeared in one World Series, not surprisingly, one the Red Sox lost. Factoring in championships, Ted Williams did indeed accomplish nothing, he didn't collect 3,000 hits and he is tied for 7th on the career batting average list. He didn't even win the MVP award the year he hit .406. The Dolphins loss in Super Bowl XIX wasn't entirely Marino's fault although his 2 interceptions didn't help the cause, Shula was out coached AND that's why they lost! The Dolphins could only manage 25 yards rushing and relying on Marino to throw 50 passes made Miami predictable.

@@matthewmajorana6043 I believe at this time and before the Sunday night package came to be that ABC owned all primetime rights. For several years they aired a final week Friday night game, with Jets @ Miami in 1983 being the first. In 1984 it was Rams @ San Francisco; 1985 had Denver @ Seattle; and 1986 was Rams @ San Francisco again. I think ABC also had some other random night games here and there on Thursdays or Sundays from the late 70s - I remember the Jets playing their first home game in the Meadowlands in 1984 against Pittsburgh on a Thursday night - but bottom line is that that exclusivity ended when the Sunday Night package was born in 1987. The first Sunday Night ESPN game was in mid-1987 with New England @ Giants.
