1983 Trophee des Nation Czech.

Спорт

Back in the early days there where two weekends of racing, one was the Trophee des Nation 500cc and the next weekend was the MX des Nations 250cc. This is how I saw it through my camera.

Sorry glen I shot this and thought it would be nice to share it with everyone so they could see what it was like back when no one was shooting anything. It takes a lot of time to do the transfer then load it to you tube. was just sharing what I have.

I'm somewhat surprised there is only a few comments on this race footage, these guys were my heros growing up! USA was so dominant back in the eighties . Back in Minnesota I was lucky enough to grow up riding and racing with Tom Benolkin who was Team Kawasakis Jeff Wards team mate in 81 and 82!! These were the good old days of American motocross

My friend Steve Hutchison was lucky enough to attend the Gary Baily school back in the early eighties . His dad was also a teacher and supported Steve in his motocross . I was poor , so I read and re read Dirt bike magazines " Rider techniques " . Some , I adopted but mostly I just used what I learned riding in the woods. I ended up beating my friend Steve throughout the 83 season . He was smooth but predictable and rarely "hung it out " ….. But I always envied how his dad worked with him .

Ooh wow, THE Gary Bailey posted this. Thx Professor, reliving some great memories. When it comes to Moto I'm a rabid Europhile. Used to ask the riders at Unadilla 250 USGP how THEY pronounced their names. The German is Arno Dreschel... ARno DREESHel. Heikki Mikkola, HAYki MEEcola Gunnar Lindstrom, GOONare LEANstrum. Eric Geboers, Eric gaBOORSH. Husqvarna, hooshkVARna. Is not just a bike company, it's the name of the town where the factory was located. Gunnar Lindstrom explained that a recruiter rude in his ears meant you write a day job his for the factory then they LET you play with a special bike on the weekend. My how time have changed. I look at David Bailey's wundawaffer RC250. I miss the ground up works bikes. Mechanical works of art they were. Ooh FYI, Roger DeCoster is ROjay, just like Davey Coombs jokes around in RXI sometimes. Blessed on Gary 💪🏻🙏🏽💞🙏🏻💪🏾 my best complement I even got at a later track was when another rider blurted out, "Dude, you look JUST like David Bailey on the bike." It wasn't an accident, I studied Gary's book, stopover studied VHS tapes of David riding, I ABSORBED his style. I LOVED DB, lives watching him ride. My advice, watch she study the riding styles of the trust who are built like you. If you're Jeff Ward size, is finish to watch Adam Cianciarulo who is much taller. And if you're 6'4" don't try to ride like Jeremy Martin, you'll break your knee in two. Well, that's all for now folks. Braaaap on and check out this article, near that they still have it up. It's from when I was a somebody Moto Journalist for Cycle News, RXI, MX East etc. How it inspires you to keep trying. cybermotorcycle.com/articles/almost-famous.htm

Let me add to the sticker story cause I was there also. Before my trek to the 83 Des Nation I heard that it was tradition to hand out or trade stickers, hats or T- Shirts. I brought a sh/t load. Since the locals were poor they had nothing to trade I gave it all away. Got swarmed. Our tour guide adviced to stop. We Asked Why? She said, "you are spreading Propaganda and could be arrested". Yikes 😳 Welcome to Communism folks. 🤠🇺🇲

Thanks for video! Just to heads up race took place in Slovakia so would be appropriate to use Czechoslovakia in title at least. I understand that in US you have used short Czecho for Czechoslovakia, but things has changed long time ago. It was country of Czechs and Slovaks...now 2separate countries for almost 30years... Again...great video, thank you!
