My friend drove me to high school daily in his 84'. This was during my junior and senior year. This car seemed so fast back then compared to most other cars on the road, especially those cars most often driven by high school students.

The Shelby Charger was actually made from 1983 to 1987. In 85, they got the turbo option, and in 87, the Shelby Charger GLHS was produced in limited number and received a dash plaque with the number of the car and it produced 175 HP.

Beautiful car. Only the '83.5 Shelby Charger is recognized as a real Shelby. The '84 - '87 Dodge Shelby Chargers were built by Dodge with no input from Carroll. The exception after the 83.5 is the '87 Shelby GLHS, which was built at the Shelby Whittier facility and is a "numbered" car. Whatever the case, these Shelby Chargers and Dodge Shelby Chargers are fun rides and have become rare sightings nowadays.

I had that exact car in 83. My friends thought I was crazy until they went for a ride to Stinson beach over Mt. Tam. They all wanted one...but they only made 6k of them. What a time. Guys in new Camaros would be pissed as I gapped them.....

I had this exact same car, my first brand new car! I put 175k miles on it with the original clutch and one head gasket. It was faster than you think and handled better than anything. Traded it for a new 94 Mustang....

I remember! I bought mine brand new off the showroom floor...I had it modded rather heavily. Crane Cam, Accel ignition, twin Weber side drafts, alloy rockers, computer mod, DC header and custom exhaust, and a Turbo Z clutch assembly. Oh, and a custom plumbed nitrous system. 13:66 without the juice, 13:03 with. I traded it too. Stupid move.

I lived in Cali. so no mods allowed to pass smog. But mine never once passed smog every 2 years I had to go to the referee station.....

Just a FYI you got a lot of your info wrong here might want to do a bit more research and re-upload an updated video. Very nice example of a Shelby charger. You guys should look into getting you a turbo version or a GLHS.

This is the best looking of the K Car Daytona cars. The agressive front dam, two tone paint. Unique,as if it's a Japanese car by way of Chrysler..

Actually they came in different colors and were made until 1987. Sad to see a museum overview spout such incorrect information.1983 and some of 1984 were normally aspirated 1984 and beyond were all turbos. But all were sold as dodge shelby chargers. Very, very, very misleading

Not disagreeing with you but this car came first...............so the SRT4 is the Shelby Charger of the 2000's.

I would upgrade the turbo and ecu and new blowoff valve if I have one, or at least put an SR20 swap (kinda sacrilegious, just saying)

83.5 and 84 models did not have turbocharging, one had to wait until the 1985 model, when the turbo 1 was introduced
