For Jean-Francois, the first time he locked eyes with this special Renault became a deeply ingrained memory, a driving force; despite being just a boy, his passion for the Renault 5 Turbo surpassed all of the typical supercar choices. During school hours, he’d obsess over cut-away drawings and articles, vowing to own one.
His first car was a work-in-progress, taking a standard Renault 5 Turbo and gradually buying the parts required to get closer and closer to that holy Cévennes Group 4 style, and always staying within the general ethos of the Renault design philosophy of light, purposeful engineering.
Jean-Francois bought and sold cars through the early years of his life as a motorist, but kept returning to the R5 Turbo, until one day he was afforded the opportunity to buy an ex-Buscari Tour de Corse R5, No.11 of just 20 produced in-period. Won’t you join us for a ride in it?

What a car! That over any modern hypercar any day
The alpha and omega of rally cars. There may be rarer, there may be more expensive. But this and the Lancia Stratos in my humble opinion are not just the two coolest rally cars but two coolest cars ever!

I remember as a kid, I was going to the Cevénnes Rally in France. get up at 4 in the morning on a Saturday plus my dad to see those R5 Turbo perfuming the roads with the smell of gasoline and marking presence with the wide back. best moments of my childhood! Thanks for this video Petrolicious👌🏻

Thanks to Renault, back in the days here in Germany we had the R5 Cup. It was a chance for young people to get closer to competitive racing. Rules were simple. Take 50 cars under 10.000 Mark. Make them light, make them a little faster and voilà🤩 Of course the took the R5. Must have been an awesome time to dive into the race sports with a cool modified street car. People in Germany describe it like this: The audience came for the formula 1, but they stood and had fun and a great time with the R5 cup, wich started after the F1 (on the Nürburgring for example). A big thanks to all French people and to Renault for this wonderful time 🤩🤩

Finally someone who drives these magnificent beasts like they are meant to be driven! So often we see brutal supercars or racing cars pottering around at 40km/h 1500rpm in such videos. This was superb. Thank you Petrolicious and the humble, brave and talented owner!

C'est fou la différence de son entre une TdC et une 5 Turbo de série ! Magnifique reportage si non je l'ai dégusté ! Ça a tellement l'air d'avoir la rage comme bestiole 😍

I was a 10 years old kid in Marseille, I had 3 posters in my bedroom, a white Countach, a red F40 and the R5 turbo. I drove an F40 in a parking lot in Silverstone in the early 90s but I never had the chance to get behind the wheel of the other two.

All I can say is: thank you. I mean it. This was LE CAR (pun intended) when I was growing up. It all started when I rode shotgun on my uncle's Renault 5 GT Turbo and nearly had my neck torn every time the turbo kicked in. He then showed me the Turbo I, Turbo II, the Alpine Turbo and the daddy, the Maxi Turbo and eventually (when I was old enough) let me drive his own R5 GT Turbo. We watched VHS tapes of Ragnotti rapping hairpin turns in the south of France and I was sold. To this day, the Renault 5 Turbo in all its iterations remains my favourite car in the world.

C'est une superbe voiture de rallye et en plus quand notre cher Jano la pilote et l'exploite à 100 % ça donne un résultat oufissime !! J'aimerais en conduire une dans ma vie mais pour l'instant je doit me contenter des miniatures.. Ps : je roule en Mégane 2 rs r25 et le turbo c'est monstrueux !!

I remember as a student working on a farm in the 80s and seeing a salesman arrive in one. As he left us, the car was fishtailing on a a surface of spilled silage and cow manure, it couldn’t really get any grip until it got out of the farm and onto the tarmac. Could still hear the banshee wail of that engine until it reached the A303. The farmer later told me it was Derrick Warrick “ ( we had just bought a grain trailer from him? ).

Tamiya made remote control car kits of this car in the 80s...back then it looked like a spaceship!
Now that is a fun car, what a blast .

Salut, 100 % d'accord avec tes commentaires. Le ton est sincère et pour en avoir eu une (une Coupe d'Europe, transformée en Groupe B, plus ou moins Cévennes, puis évolué ensuite en Groupe F avec des pièces de Tour de Corse (Merci M. Arthur BOZIAN), de maxi de rallye (Merci M. Félix CHAMBON), de Production (Merci M. BOURGUIGNON) et beaucoup de copies des pièces de celle de Saby (Merci pour le prêt Daniel LOISON) fabriquées chez moi, c'est-à dire en fait juste l'inverse de la tienne) et avoir eu le privilège de participer à des rallyes, régionaux, nationaux, inter et même à la finale de la coupe de France pendant 9 saisons, j'apprécie vraiment la justesse de l'analyse. Surtout en ce qui concerne les versions de série qui sont réellement décevante à mon avis et à la limite même dangereuses parce que souvent imprévisibles. Je me suis même fait insulter pour avoir écrit ça sur Internet... J'ajouterai pour avoir eu en mains (souvent des voitures de clients que je préparais) toutes les versions, sauf la Maxi et la production que paradoxalement, plus elles sont préparées et par conséquent rapides, plus elles sont faciles à piloter. Même partage de sentiment à propos de Jean Ragnotti avec lequel je n'ai fait qu'un seul rallye, le Var. Quand j'ai vu les cameras embarquées tournées dans les spéciales qu'on avait parcouru la veille avec la R5 j'ai compris que ce type-là ne vit pas sur la même planète que nous... I've never had the pleasure of even seeing one of these IRL; I only came to know about this little gem by way of buying a Corgi scale model of one and doing research from there. On my bucket list of cars I most want to drive, this one sits on top. I just love the styling, and the rear engine, RWD set-up? What could be more perfect? Thanks for a video that allows me to experience what it must be like behind the wheel!
