Have one of these in slightly less flawless condition (also an '83, but in red) and I adore it. Saved it from a trash heap and restored it with OEM parts myself as best as my meager skills could manage. They're a great model for the money, very practical for daily city use, and just plain fun to own. I get a lot of comments from people all the time about how neat a bike it is.

Man, fond memories. This was my first vehicle ever back in 2006. Bought it for 500$ from an old fella in town.

I started out riding on one of these Aero 80's over 30 years ago. My brother bought it new and handed it down to me, we put over 10k miles on that thing and it still ran like a top. I traded it for my first real bike in 1986, a Honda CX500.

I just got a 1987 Aero 80CC.. Can you tell me how to get into the engine compartment? I know about the pop up floor mat with the 2 bolt's, but no clue as to how to procede outside of removing license plate and holder

You have to remove the luggage rack, seat, cowling behind floorboard, then the side covers while disconnecting all turn signals and taillight pigtails to access the engine. Sounds rough but thats the way it is.

You dont drain the oil in 2 stroke engines. You find the oil reservoir and fill it. Thats it. The beauty of 2 smokes vs 4 strokes.Edit make sure to use good 2 stroke oil only. 4 cycle engine oil will definately blow it up.

You need a title or a bill of sale, and then take it to the DMV and get the license plate. Really cheap, and they last for three years.

I haven't seen a video about one of these with a lot of miles so if it's still in good condition and only has a few thousand miles after 34 years then why didn't you put more Miles on it. Seems to me like 2 strokes don't last long and they cause a lot of carbeurator problems and headaches

I know this is an old post by now, but basically everything you said was stupid or wrong. - Why don't a lot have high miles? Generally it's because people bought scooters for short commutes and occasional pleasure cruising, which tends to not rack up a lot of miles. Can you imagine a 500 mile trip loaded up with camping gear travelling one gallon at a time on a scooter? How about a 50 mile commute to work and back every day when you can't do highway speeds? How about areas that have actual winters that make two wheeled travel dicey, or areas with a lot of year round rain to limit how many people want to ride them on a regular basis? It's like asking why you don't see million mile bicycles, it's just not what they're intended for. Scooters are much more of a niche market than cars that just about everyone can put to use just about anywhere, which limits how many there are and by extension how many high mile examples there would be. - "and they cause a lot of carbeurator problems"... Huh? They use basically the same carbs as 4 strokes. Pre-mixing fuel doesn't cause any significant problems that I'm aware of, and oil injection 2 strokes only come into play after the carb. - "and headaches"... Again, huh? What "headaches" are you referring to? 2 strokes are incredibly simple, with the worst of the regular maintenance amounting to occasionally pulling the spark plug for a quick clean (based on how rich you run the oil mix) which takes all of two minutes. No oil changes or valves to worry about, and these Honda Aeros have oil injection so you don't even have to bother with premixing your fuel, just toss a quart of oil in its own little tank about once every 10 fills of gas. Even in premix systems, you can just keep premeasured vials of oil to drop in the tank based on how much gas you fill up. Your oil injection system goes wonky and can't be bothered to fix it? Easy, just disable the system and run premix. Autochoke system (like these Aeros have) causing problems? Easy, bypass it and/or run manual choke. Modern carbs don't fit your old 80's scooter? Easy, make an adapter out of the end cap and a small piece of pipe from an old cheap clothing rack and a few zip ties. Electric start goes out or battery dies? Easy, that's what the kickstart is for (unless you have the 1985 model lol). You sound like the weird 4 stroke fanboys I've been seeing lately. People will get tribalistic over the dumbest things...
