I miss my Seca Turbo. That bike took me places I never would have seen otherwise, most notably jail cells and emergency rooms.

One of these took me to college everyday 1983-1987...was a dream. Very inexpensive with cheap insurance and sipping gas until you got into the boost. One sad day, got hit by a landscaper truck that was just leaving the scene of another collision! Bike was totalled just for the costs of the body panel damage. I miss it. Beautiful restoration! Thanks for sharing

Bought mine brand new from the factory in 1985 - unsold warehouse bike. Rode it about a year until two of my buddies went to the dealership and each bought one the same way. We were the 3 amigos on Turbo in San Diego. You could smoke the new 1985 900 Ninja in a straight line. Cornering was another story - if the turbo kicked in while you were laid over it would stand you up and toss you out the outside edge - you had to be careful riding that rocket. But in a straight line - when that turbo spun up it was like getting hit with nitrous. It was an extremely comfortable ride - it looked like a bend over crotch rocket but rode more upright like a cruiser. The Achilles heal was the turbo seals - like most turbos. I eventually removed the turbo due to the oil leaks and bypassed the chamber - still ran great just didn't have the kick it used to. Sold it to the mailman because I was deployed too much and didn't get to ride it or keep it up like I should (probably contributed to the turbo failure). If there is still new stock out there - it's worth a look. Nothing but found memories about that bike.

Yes! Same here! Out of all the turbos, this was the coolest looking! I liked the Honda CX-500 and CX-650 too, except for the "cyclops" headlight. The Seca just looked "right". Did you know the same designer of the Battlestar Galactica 1980 Land Probes (aka flying motorcycles) also designed the Seca Turbo fairing? You can see the similarities between the two. The Land Probes were sans windscreen, something that would be of advantage on a "flying" bike. Miss the 1970"s, 1980's full fairings. Only the touring bikes have them now. No sport bikes have a decent full fairing anymore, unfortunately.

I use to own one in my early twenties and I loved it! A lot of people don't know but James Bond used one of these when it was a prototype in one of his movies.

I had one of these in the early 1990s. It was a complete beater I bought for $500 to commute 130-180 miles round trip everyday for work at construction sites in southern California. I didn't put one penny into maintenance outside of oil changes. It was hideous but super comfortable for the time. Now I ride a Honda St 1300 and can say outside of the fairing noise the Yamaha, if it was in better condition, is the better commuter because the Honda is sooo heavy in tight traffic and the heat it puts out is really bad. Plus the 60-80 mph roll on of the turbo was good, for the era.

I bought an 81 used in 85 and still have it. Found another one a few years ago and got that one too. Also found an 81 and an 82 for parts. I probably have some kind of disorder according to my married friends.

I always thought those were the coolest looking bikes when the first came out but I'm glad that I didn't buy one due to the turbo lag issue when accelerating in turns.
