1982 XR250 Rebuild Mini Series!! Ep. 5 Vintage Plastics Restoration

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Sup everybody I am back with the latest XR250 Build video and in this one I will be trying something out for the first time! (I feel like I say that every video) This is my attempt at restoring 39 year old plastics using only some sand paper, a lot of time, and some Maxima SC1. I saw others doing this wet sand technique to bring back gas tanks and plastics so I had to give it a shot. It is really simple but it takes a long time.
Hope this will help someone out there who didn't know how to bring their old plastics back to life or was to scared like I was to scratch up the plastics and it not work! I promise it does work even if it feels very strange to be scratching up your plastics haha. I was able to get 90% of the white sun fade out and bring back the color. The plastics feel really smooth now and I'm sure with a little buffing from a polishing wheel and they would look almost new again. I will be trying that next once I can buy one.
NEXT VIDEO IS THE FINAL ASSEMBLY!! I will try to get that out before the end of this month (Febuary, 2021) So stay on the lookout for that one! Then the reveal will be shortly after to finish it all up. This build series was not the most popular by any means but I promise it will go out with a bang! The last two videos will be epic.

    Use a torch to get the plastic shiny

  • @9Zeek7
    @9Zeek72 жыл бұрын

    Propane torch seems to work much better than the heat gun. You can heat the surface much faster without heating all the way through the plastic.

    Thank you. I'll have to try the silocon clear coat. I painted my 1981 honda xr250r because the previous owner did. I need to get the paint off and do it right. I am trying to restore it to original all except safety stuff like trying to convert it to DC with better lights. Still not sure how to do it but I have a idea.

    most of that white oxidization will come off with a 3500 lb pressure washer . still needs a scrape after and a sanding .
