The upper window trim that wrinkles was a recall item. That's according to a longtime MBZ body shop manager. Later model w123's fared better than the earlier models.

Hey thanks for the instructional on reattaching the door cards and handles -- that black plastic insert snapping in is tricky (And I did it wrong now I know how to fix it!) -- As for the Silver 300D - I bet that one is going to sell quickly!

Nice work! Do you ever look above or pull the lower primary weatherstripping out of its channel and look for rust? My original 1980 garage queen came from Colorado and there was dirt packed above the weatherstrip and the Channel had surface rust which I treated and cavity waxed. But my 79 that has no rust anywhere else actually had holes behind that weatherstrip channel. I was shocked. And it was not visible till I pulled the strip out of the channel groove and inspected.

Yeah I hear what you're saying but I beat the rust on the "buy" side. I make sure to never buy any cars that have any rust whatsoever. If you buy a car with a little bit of rust chances are it has a lot of hidden rust. You have to beat the rust on the "buy" side.

@@woodsandbarclay my cars have no rust visible anywhere and the only way I found it was removing the weatherstrip. Unless you do this, you don’t know, either. 80 300CD perfect engine compartment, perfect interior, original nice paint, best one I’ve ever seen. And rust under the weatherstrips. Start looking, it’s a Thing on these cars.

On a diesel there's really nothing you need to worry about. There's really no electronics in the engine compartment of the diesel models. I mean Don't spray the alternator for an extended period of time and don't spray the connection terminals for the battery. Don't spray the fusebox just use common sense. My pressure washer is just a cheap electric pressure washer from harbor freight I don't know the PSI

From what I've read, the battery should be removed to be extra cautious, plus you can clean underneath it and ensure the tray is not corroded.

You can buy it by the gallon at harbor freight it's called heavy duty degreaser I usually cut it 50/50 with water spray it on the engine and let it sit for about 5 minutes and then spray it off.

These old 123 Merc's were QUALITY made, newer Merc,s are not half as good!! 👍👍Back around this time Mercedes Benz and others built Quality cars, many were Taxis, now they have a lot things you Do Not really need, just MORE to fix when it breaks and it Will BREAK cost the owner a fortune to fix. This car is in exception condition, almost new, but 42 years old!

Compared to 116, 123s and 126's they are. 124s are full of cheap plastic parts. I work on these cars all day everyday. Trust me the quality of Mercedes severely went downhill in the 124 chassis. As a mechanic I get to touch and feel all of the parts in the car and there's a huge difference in the quality of parts on that 124 chassis. Ask any classic Mercedes mechanic and they will agree with me 100%. 124s are good cars but not when you compare them to the earlier chassis models. When you do that you can clearly see all of the cheap plastic. Maybe I was going overboard when I said they're junky... they're not junky they're just not the same level of quality.

@@woodsandbarclay I just cant disagree with you more....I own both models.. a w123 and a w124 currently....I've had a w210 a w211 and a w212. The w123 has some pros and cons...if you lived in europe...oh my god the rust on a w123. W124 is more modern, yes it has more plastic parts but it's a far superior daily driving machine and there is no sacrifice to quality. A w210 the quality is way down and all subsequent models. But that's another topic.
