The “magoo” year. He was tremendous. Everything went his way. He won the superbikers and swept all 4 motos of the mx and throphy des nations. A feat never before achieved nor will it ever be duplicated. Danny was a one-of-a-kind talent. Sad how he went out. He deserved better..

I agree man .....but I came to realize that life isn't fair , and chance plays a bigger role than we want to admit. I think he was gonna be in the fight for the 500 world title on that kawi. But fate had a different agenda

I have a friend who was a factory Honda rider in 1983 and he had a very similar experience with life. The higher you climb the farther you fall (for some) Alcohol ruined his life

Being a Foresthill native it’s such a joy to see “Magoo” dominate. Was an awesome experience watching him shock the world growing up as a kid in his hometown. Danny “Magoo” Chandler was the greatest!

A friend of mine and I helped flagged the race. Our friend, Marty Smith, got us the opportunity. at about 1:25, I'm in the inside of the corner in white t-shirt provided by the race and white duck trousers specified by the racing organization. We were stuck there at our posts for a long time. Magoo was on another level and was riding so loose. 500cc two-strokes were monsters!

Saw Magoo in 1975 at Puyallup Wa. He was doing one handed jumps and huge whips and I believe he is the first freestyle athlete. No one else was doing that in 1975

At user..we stayed at the fransiscan inn while attending rolf’s husky training camp at carlsbad. We got to ride the unpreppred gp track every day. It was brutal, like concrete with dust sprinkled on it..

I raced that track in ‘83 and had a lot more respect for the pro’s after that . I raced amateur from ‘81-‘83 and finally realized I was not going to “ Live the dream” of a full sponsored ride . Humbling experience. Those WERE the Glory days of Moto -cross though . 😎👍

I raced against Broc Glover at Carlsbad in 1983. I will tell you this, he did the fastest laps ever recorded at Carlsbad. By the way, Glover did not race the 500 event in 82.

Carlsbad forced riders to practice line diversity as the line that worked on the previous lap has now deteriorated forcing the rider into a new line.

AtRadioReprised.. I use to cut an inch off of each side. I liked maico, cz and husky bend. We ran our bars lower then whats in vogue today. Jimmy weinert’s were practically laying on his tank..

had first year rm80,yz,kx,and 3 wheelers to 250,and then cr 480 was nasty,got cr500,it was more tame.growing up on kodiak island alaska had all the toys from 60s,and into dirt bikes etc.

Shultz 500cc National champ, and Lackey 500cc World Champ! First American mx world champ. Got love and respect for SoCal, but that was NorCals year

This was before the supercross influence and big sponser money.. The business of motocross happened slowly and finally hired bulldozers.
