Ғылым және технология

After looking for original replacement tweeters for years I finally just swapped in a pair of Parts Express tweeters.

I love these speakers. Have bought, repaired and sold several sets.

They do have a great sound for such a small package. Perfect for a small room, dorm, etc.

I picked up a pair of B/A A-40's from my local hifi repair shop in 2013. I paid $70 for the pair. The sound is remarkable and dispersion is excellent from the .75" tweeter. It seems to have deeper bass than it's rated 68Hz (+/-3dB rating) and sit in my 900+cu/ft kitchen system powered by a Pioneer SX-434 receiver. I'd bet these A-70's would have deeper bass. Nice when you can lose yourself in the music played thru accurate speakers. Interesting video but way beyond my repair capabilities. Results speak for themselves, nice job.

They sound good after the tweeter replacement but the replacements sound a bit too bright. Still looking for original replacements.

It's important to replace drivers with originals if possible. Or, at least, drivers with specs as closely matched as you can. Remember, the speakers were "designed" with certain performance parameters in mind. Also, in your case, a bit too bright is much better than a bit too dull. That's why God made graphic EQ's. Good topic, I'll check out your channel. I have a pair of Ohm model H's and they were restored with Ohm drivers and sound boss.@@mguess

Had a pair of A400s years ago and found the tweeters to be a tiny bit dull compared to ADS silk domes with the sticky coating. I thought it was the copolymer material but found out I was wrong. I got a pair of the ADS CM-5s just to see what a 4th order crossover sounded like, and this speaker was a 2 way with a copolymer dome tweeter. Crystal clear much to my amazement. Not sure why the difference but I would highly recommend using a dome from ADS instead of Parts Express

Since vintage equipment deteriorates over time some replacements have been made ( $$$) but this is a quick and dirty way to do it. I would not call it a cheat if it works and as you found out it takes a little work to do it. Couldn't tell they were replacements. Excellent results.

I looked for years for proper original replacement tweeters. I even ordered a tweeter that was supposed to fit the A70 but it was too large. The Parts Express route was cheap, easy and sounds great. If I do eventually find good original tweeters I can always swap them in because I didn't modify the speaker box.

Probably next week you'll find a pair of A70's with missing or non-stock woofers, right?

Yep, that's the way it goes sometimes.

Replacing ferrofluid is inexpensive and can be done in 5 mins.

Agreed. The bad tweeter actually had an open voice coil. Definitely needed a replacement.
