Just brought this one back to life in summer 2021. New carburetors and a few other extras and repairs. Stock exhaust. Replaced Hitachi carburetors with Mikunis.
Жүктеу.....

I rode a 1981 XS850LH from 95 to 99, put 20,000 miles on it, bought it for $800 and traded it in for $800, great machine, thanks for posting!

That's a good run for sure. Definitely fun bikes and have their own sound. You had a good return on your investment considering you rode that many miles. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.

My grandfather had a 1980 and a 79 cb750 that had been sitting for a decade. He told me if I got them both running I could have the XS. I admittedly wanted the cb more, but I fell in love with the XS and I'll never sell it.

DO you have any information or remember where you bought your carb rebuild kit? I have an xs850 that came with the Mikuni BS34 carb. Need a rebuild kit - can't find one online. Might have a local bike shop that can source one, but thought I would ask. Thanks

Thanks for watching. I just bought the k&l kits from ebay. A lot of places to buy them. They include a lot of what you don't need and are missing some things you do need. I just re used the items not included. Good luck with your project.

Try fixing the starter clutch and checking on the starter brushes!

Just takes a lot of patience and tuning. Hopefully you have stock exhaust and airbox because that makes them run better and easier to tune.

is the xs850 too much bike for a beginner?

With regard to power, I don't think so. 850cc bikes of that Era are much different than 850cc bikes of today. This is a heavy bike so a beginner may want something lighter and more nimble to learn on so it's easier to handle. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
