I remember this like it was yesterday. The Coors of that year convinced most that Greg would have won a gold medal if we hadn't boycotted the Moscow games. Unfortunately wasn't able to go watch this, but did see Greg just before this, where he destroyed the field at Nevada City.

Watching the Coors Classic inspired me to take up racing. I developed an interest in racing the summer after this year. That's where I first saw my heroes of that era win races. It was amazing to see later versions of that race grow so prestigious that it attracted some of the best pros of the era. It's too bad it all ended. The Morgul-Bismark course is definitely not like it was during that era.

Yeah whoever made ‘ American flyers’ definitely watched this documentary first it’s actually shocking they got away with it. The whole racing part is virtually lifted from this documentary film

@@IncogNito-gg6uh Bad Moon Rising by Creedance Clearwater Rivival is a great tune 👍 Sounds like John Tesh on this documentary? I think that 80's keyboard sound of Tesh was replicated on American Flyers although Tesh doesn't appear to be credited its Greg Mathieson & Lee Ritenour.

Slows them down a lot. Wind is the biggest enemy of cyclists

was lemond with fignon or hinault that year???

Fignon and Hinault were on Renault/Gitane at that time, but they did not come over for the Coors Classic. I believe LeMond had several neo-pros from the team that came over to help him that year. Hinault did ride in the 85 and 86 editions, winning in 85 and helping LeMond win in 86.

@@dogmanfitness2552 You can see Madiot early on, in the footage where they're training in the foothills of the Rockies. Marc, not Yvon. If you look hard, you might see Bouvatier, Leuleu (sp?), maybe even a young Mottet. But, yeah, no sign of the Badger or the Professor.

So many many things have improved sooo much! Look at the "computer"...wow! They had no clue how far along computer systems would develop from then till now. Makes me appreciate that technology is moving forward even FASTER today...people will be looking at what we have today in 50 years and laughing even harder! And the bike tech...again, wow... Im all carbon this, and carbon that, electronic shifters, aero everything...tracking cadence, my heart, incline, decline, pace, and on and on from my wrist...Ha. What we track today from our watch took an entire athletic department at a university back then... Quite frankly, Im so spoiled these days, I wouldn't even want to be seen on a bike with that kind of bike "high tech"...comedy. I bet those bikes weighted over 20lbs...the most advanced, highest end parts, etc...to even get down to that weight. Which is heavy! Did you check out their "food"...no proper calculated and scientifically designed anything. Just eggs and bacon. Ha. Imagine you told one of them that one day you would just sit on the bike and it would just gooo...easily riding over 30mph, or that their car hydraulic break system would be on the bike,, that helmets would have heads up displays showing turn by turn map route, the temp, wind speed and direction, and that everywhere they rode, everyone in the world could see all of their stats, and, then ride the same segment to rack and stack how well any and every rider that ever rides the same place again, ever, does compared to them. They would have laughed....

$50 to win a sprint. I suppose cycling isn't quite like NFL nor NBA. Or was that a lot of money back than ?

Yes that was a nice prize but way before the US government started print up lots of extra cash and mailing out so called "economic stimulus checks" to everyone to create a ridiculous inflation rate that we are now all struggling to keep up with across the USA ... 50 dollars back then could feed an entire family at a fancy restaurant but as of now it would barely afford a sandwich at the deli...
