Appreciate you posting this video. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind me asking. I want to use stayfast material on my SnugTop on my mini truck. Back in the day we use to call it phantom top not sure if it's the same material. I've never done a material top before but willing to make mistakes to learn. I have a SnugTop shell over the bed and it is fiberglass. The clear is gone and is rough from sun beating on it. I used 220 sandpaper on a small area to test if it would sand down smooth and it appears so. Question: do i have to use foam like you are using in this video or can i just glue material down on the shell? I guess another question would be do i have to use a certain primer before either foam or to glue material down directly to the shell? Any tips would be much appreciated. It's a 93 Toyo single cab.

Stayfast is the same type material from back in the day. I would lay it right on top of that shell with no padding if it’s smooth enough. I believe you sanding it is good without the primer. Make sure you’re using the right glue and not the can stuff.

@@haroldpalmer3245 I use weldwood landau top and trim contact adhesive. I spray it out of the paint gun using the air compressor.

Any advice for trim? I picked up a 68skylark in the middle of a restoration but instead of putting vinyl top he put cloth. The extra thickness is damn near impossible to get the trimming back on

You’ll have to mock up around the top where the trim goes. Pull the top up around the edges. Cut the padding back 1/2 inch from where the trim goes so it will lay down flat enough to get the trim clips on it .

I would have left the side windows completely covered with the rag and put humps in the top. I had a couple of G Bodies back in the day like that with a diamond rear glass and a long oval slit on the other one.

@kreativemindzupholstery4250 Yes. I miss that era. I had two Nissans. One was burnt orange with a black ragtopped camper shell with humps on it and the other was a maroon extended cab. Both dropped sitting on 15" deep dish chrome Prime wheels. Back in the day we called em "Hammers"

There is no 1988 Regal like that. You mean 1987, as that was the last year for rear wheel drive for the Regal. The Monte Carlo and Cutlass continued through 1988 as rear wheel drive, but the other "G" bodies were last rear wheel drive in 1987.

You are listing the car as a 1984 Regal, but the slate trim on the doors was only available in 1987 model year. Also the CHMSL (center high mount stop light) leads me to know that the car is either a 1986 or 1987 model year. CHMSLwas noy available on 1984 or 1985 models. Installing that would require drilling the rear package shelf, mointing the brackey, getting and installing an entirel different wiring harness from the fuse block to the tail light harness, a ROYAL PITA...Although not included in this video, where did you get replacement clips for the top and side trim for the front trim?

What kind of material is it you using on the g body I think that should work for a bed cover on my elco

Love the workmanship but not the color, should have been like the door cards and interior. Also having a 1980 Olds with a T top there was a textured finish more like a faux leather; with a harder surface and appearance. This color might be a good match for a pink car but then the material still needs to be upgraded. These cars probably had another 1/4 of padding, they were slightly more puffy. Just throwing ideas your way no dings for anything you did here.

It was gonna be about putting the trim around the top but it got canceled when the customer decided to switch the top color.
