The 80s was the last true hoorah for the UK seaside resorts. The 90s was the nosedive. They're a mess now. This from someone who grew up in Torquay and saw the sad decline.

Blackpool was fantastic in the 80s it was my holiday destination as a child we use to go for 2 weeks every Summer i loved it and have lots of happy memories from those holidays ❤

Coach trip with the working mens club. I had completely forgotten about. Thank you😊👍

In the 1980s and 1070s blackpool was cool not really dirty but now it got down hill but I don't mind blackpool it is messy but out of 10 I rate blackpool 6/10.

Not really a ‘northern’ thing at all as there’s Southern ‘Victorian’ seaside resorts just the same. But they all suffer the same, tired, dated, semi-shitholes. Margate, Southend, Weston, Brighton... Just like in the North the bigger cities now get more visitors and have more investment (Liverpool, Manchester are far better places to visit than Blackpool for example).
