I owned a 318 astro and drove it all over the Us in the late 70's. Experience of a life time!

Had 2 titans back in the 70's, 318 Detroit with 10 speeds. Beautiful rigs to drive. Cabovers are starting to make a comeback. I see more and more of them out on the interstates.

Wow just seeing this. This was my Dads truck. Still has his stuffed dog on the fan. It was in Connecticut most of its life. Originally had the big drag foil on top too. I loved this truck as a kid.

I used to drive an Astro with a 13spd. & 3 stage Jake brake. I loved that truck. With those giant windows I could set my left foot up on dash on long hauls. The only downside is that the power steering didn't work so it was all muscle to maneuver, not that big a deal since I was a young mover for NorthAmerican at the time.

The low air warning beeper is almost pleasant sounding compared to the one in my truck. That's a cool cabover you have there.

Starting from top left: water temp, oil pressure, amperes, fuel and oil temperature. Your model also probably has an axle temperature. There is a single fuel gauge because the two tanks are plumbed together from the factory. The top air gauge is for the pressure in the tank. The bottom gauge is for the pressure you apply from the treadle valve (brake pedal) or trailer brakes.

That is correct...There is a minimun required tootake the brakes off and a maximum to run.Anything over send it out the airdryer on the frame...Hitting the brakes on the floor also exhausts

My dad built our family on that rig. It's one tough SOB, just like dad. He put 2.5 million miles on his. In the end it had a Cummins 430 in it. What do you want for it?

@wojack1000 my dads first farm semi was a 1969 GMC astro, with a twotone blue. It had a 318 8v 71 and a 13 speed. It was really a nice truck for how old it was, I think that was the first year GMC astro came out????

Neat truck. Is there a commercial market for these older, smaller cabovers today, a practical use for them other then just to be int he hands of collectors? If you where to put one to work today, what would be a good application for it?

I'm in school now to get my CDL. Ive been thinking when I finally go owner operator I would run regional with you ne of these (with a sleeper). What are the major things that are Astro/Titan specific to watch out for when buying one of these beauties ??

On modern air brake trucks, you need around 80 psi to get the maxi's to release.
