Many thanks martyn, you keep comming up with these amazing vids.....myself and a m8 from school went up to this meeting on a coach from Reading.......I think if my memory is correct Reading had a home meeting with an 11am start...which points toward a bank holiday.....may be wrong ?...? Long time ago....Davis always quick off the start had just got hold of a brand new goddon and it was so quick...his form was on the up and his style suited the shorter tighter tracks........it was a freezing cold night....but as a young kid I remember being really taken with Wimbledon stadium....it was really impressive compared to Reading that was a dump by comparison.....black and gold was John's new colours...similar to Simon......slick starts on a slick track...and that was his night......never quite hit the heights on the international sene and had a rep as a little bit out for himself but nevertheless was still in the top flight of riders for several years..............thanks very much for all your efforts martyn......stay safe m8....and keep up the great work.

@@Stranglerxx77 ..m8 you are so right...although the star has been gone a long long time...so so sad the news of Dave greenfield passing...seen them countless times over the years...loved em to bits....no way for a man of his stature and pure genius to bow out....stay safe m8

Shame about the Louis tape exclusion here. Lee was the real culprit and had his wheel on the tapes when JL 'broke' them. John then subsequently reeled off 4 wins. You'd normally have expected Louis to out-gate John Davis so it would have been a nice season opening win on the back of the previous years BLRC. This was impressive from John Davis though - the Godden going well for him at that time.
