    See how the tracks back then followed the NATURAL topography of the land? THAT is TRUE Motocross! While I think adding more jumps and Whoops is cool, modern track's losing the Earth's natural flow has made Modern Euro Motocross GP feel the same as everything else these days: Artificial! jmho

    Notice the power of the mighty Maico's at 12:30 !!! The following year's production 490 Mega2 Decimated EVERYTHING else, making it the most Sought -After MX Bike in history! I ALMOST bought one fully restored off ebay for $4500 in 2000, and regret not doing so!

    I remember the main reason I went and watched Motocross back then was to see the 500's race, the sound and the spectacle of them out there would put a shiver up my back . When the open class was dropped I simply never went to another meeting. Not interested. Great film by the way, thanks.

    Totally agree. True outdoor tracks, mostly natural terrain and no super cross style areas.

  • @montdeswelches

    @montdeswelches

    Wenn die Federbeine überhitzen, ist keine Dämpfung mehr da. Durchschlag eher nicht, da die Dämpfer Stahlfederbeine hatten. Suzuki hatte diese Probleme mit den Kayaba Dämpfern bis 1983, als die auf Drängen von Harry Everts zu White Power wechselten.

    I don't know much about motocross in this era. However, this video is very interesting and valuable in observing the development of motorcycle technology. What I want you to pay attention to is the slow motion video of 1:48 and 2:17. 1:48 is a twin shock 1979MY Suzuki RM400. 2:17 is a mono-shock 1980MY Honda CR450R Elsinore. By comparing these two slow motions, anyone can understand at a glance that mono shocks are very advantageous over twin shocks. And it will tell you how important the maintenance of a cantilever unit is for the owner of a mono-shock motorcycle. I thank you for posting a great video.

    Those factory bikes were FARRRR from junk. Incredible use of chromoly, titanium, geometry, weight distribution, and built specifically for the measurement of the particular rider. Motors no doubt had PLENTY more HP on demand than most of today’s current offerings. If you should ever get the opportunity to closely inspect (and possibly ride) a TRUE hand-built “works” bike…you marvel at the masterful metalwork & fine attention to EVERY SINGLE LAST detail; inside & out.
