I wish Yamaha would have kept those colors with that kind of graphics that was their best look.

If you only knew how many times I've said this about ALL the older bikes.
I have a 79 yz400 I restored back in the early 90s when I was in middle school. Parts were hard to get no internet then! Thanks to my dad tracking and lots of calls!

Glad you kept it. Rugged.
1:11 "It hauls ass! Let me demonstrate! Hold my Mic!" That's a classic line right there!
When The Wizard gets impressed with a bike, you already know it's outstanding. That is one very gorgeous bike.
I was 17 years old ,I had the yz 400f same look but white in Australia ..it was always loosing teeth on the sprockets.. it had a lot of torque ..it was a bit like riding a wild beast especially around corners .l gave 5 freinds a ride they all went up the track a few hundred meters hit power band a few times came back slow and gave it back to me ,they usually road 4 stroke 250s.it was a little funny l did set them up to be scared crap out of..43 years later l can still see their 😶 speechless face's.
The Bob hurricane Hannah race machine
Omg the sound is intoxicating. I remeber like you Ken sr seeing him race on wide world of sports. Also seeing guys ride these in my town pits. 💕 Whoooo. Hooo
Mines restored with all the correct parts but I'd love an all original. My 79 yz blows my 96 cr250s doors off and it's more versatile.
Real MX bike. Great era.
Beauty!!! I used to ride a ''82 YZ490 as a kid! Love the short silencers of that era!

You mean 400? The 490 came out in 1982

@@macroevolve too many bikes and too many years!
i skipped this bike at 13yrs old and went straight to the yz 400, yz 465 then yz 490 withing 2yrs at 15yr i was on a 1984 yz 490 miss the bike just not kick starting it went threw alot of right side boots n duct tape lol
The first bike I bought, close ratio 6 speed, _sounded exactly like that one_ ! Don't know how I missed this one....
Being a Hannah fan I loved seeing these. Yellow fork boots and that aluminum swingarm looked great. Of course the red engined Hondas and the RM were awesome too.
One of my all time favorite bikes ever! Wow! That bad ass vintage Moto 3 is not bad either. 👍🇺🇸
Omg boys. That bike is fn priceless. One of th few i would not ride. And thats not easy for me to say. Damnnnn. Goin t fire up sm 2stroke jus watchn that diamond..
Thanks for the memories, I know that sound.
I had one of those too. LOL 6 speed bike was awesome... last bike I raced. Never got that bike sorted out before it got stolen. Got married had kids.
What a gem 💎, love it 🇺🇸
Bell moto 3’s and YZ’s!!!!!!
Yamahaaaaaaaaa!!!!!❤❤❤
Hell yeah Kaplan way to go I can smell the two-stroke oil from here my buddy had a YZ 80 and that thing was fast I could imagine whata 250 is like love the channel keep up the good work and it definitely is a diamond👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
love it.
Bang on my era. Stunning thing
Even though Ive always been a CR fanatic those YZs were also fast😅😅
That 250 can still tear up the trails really good..
BAD ASS YAMAHA, MEAN AS HELL
I remember my uncle had one of those when i was a little kid. I remember the seat was up around my head & I remember the smell of the castor oil. Killer bike!

There's no smell like Castrol 2 stroke oil made in my hometown of Escalon, Ca. Brings back memories.

@user-ox4uv1uw1p Yeah, I remember asking my dad what that smell was & him saying it's a bean oil. I was totally confused (I was 4 years old) & thought of baked beams & how that worked. 😁

It came in a 16 0z can in either green label or gold label for a few bucks more for the rich guys, which had a nitro methane additive. I always thought the green label smelled better.

@user-ox4uv1uw1p Yeah, that's a sweet smell!! Whenever I smell it, it takes me back to being 4 years old & smelling it for the first time.
I have the 400 version of that same bike, same year, and owned since 1980 and always garaged. Runs like a raped ape and love vintage history of MX Motorcycles. Also had the 80cc version of the same.
Drooling
It’s been blue for so long. I’ve gotten used to it. Put a prefer yellow. 🙂💛💙The Blues are right are all right. I like yellow better.
I have the same bike but the power band is very unpredictable
1st year of that plastic tank? i had a yz1980 80 1st yr plas tank.
Having a hard time finding a CDI MAGNETO for this bike any help would love to restore mines like this 😢
Haha I have that exact same bike right now
Know that model in Capetown fast Scrambler that was..
What did it sell for?
Super sweet bike but they look so much slower, am I wrong? I mean vs some newer 2 stroke 250's and Newer four stroke
10,000
Why was it yellow back then and not now I don’t get it. That’s so strange.
I had a 78 400 when I was a kid and ruined it wish I would have just put it away
Divorce, the blue and get back to the yellow
When it switched to blue as what the blank I’m not fan of the blue tell you that much
The motor doesn't look very big for a 250.
That's not 100% original. they didn't come with Oury grips or those tank graphics?? pretty close though.

You must have to many bikes that are a staple of American motocross history. Bob Hannah had AMA National win records that stood the test of time, only to be broken, finally, by McGrath. If I had the means to purchase any MX bike, and keep it as a page out of racing history, it would be that bike. I hope it doesn’t go to some unappreciative spoiled prick. 🙁 You make me wonder sometimes Ken 🤨
