Marino. Monk. Morris. May. Those are just the notable M-players in this game to be stars in the NFL. Hugh Green, Russ Grimm and Rickey Jackson, too? Amazing!

The Steelers watched Marino for four years while tearing it up at Pitt. Yet the Steelers passed on drafting Marino in the first round. Astonishingly so did the rest of the NFL until nearing that very last pick the Dolphins took him. Bradshaw was still in the lineup with the Steelers but nearing his HOF career. I always wonder what might have been…

Actually, the Steelers and many other teams passed on Marino due to persistent rumors of drug use. Believe it or not... pot. That's why he was still undrafted when the Dolphins had the 27th (next to last) pick in the first round. Many suspected Don Shula, Miami head coach, had spread the rumors so he could draft Marino. As a young Steelers fan in 1983, my friends and I just assumed the Steelers would draft Marino to succeed Bradshaw. Given the Steelers had top a defense and running game through the 80s but weak QBs, with Marino they might've added several more Super Bowls.

Dan Marino had a bad Senior year. Some said he partied too much, and that affected his draft status. It's not the first time NFL scouts were wrong about a player.

This was a tough year for Syracuse in the sense they didn’t have a home field. Archibold Stadium had been torn down after the 1978 season but the Carrier Dome didn’t open until 1980. As a result Syracuse had to play “home” games at a variety of sites.

2 home games at Buffalo, 2 at Giants Stadium, 1 at Cornell. Probably would have been better off playing them all at Cornell; the two games in Buffalo drew a COMBINED total of 18,000, and the one vs. West Virginia at East Rutherford drew 10,375. The game vs. Penn St. at Giants Stadium drew almost 54,000, but 40,000 were Penn St. fans.

Favorite thing about this game is retired, long-time Coach Frank Broyles, reacting to the pure freshman Marino’s poise and skill. On the drop before the TD pass in 2nd quarter Broyles is amazed at the quick release of Marino, like he’d never seen anything like it. I wonder if Broyles, over his outstanding coaching career, started a freshman QB? Probably did, but also probably tried to avoid it all cost.

I'm a lifelong Dolphins' fan going back to Griese being drafted out of Purdue so I got to watch two Hall of Fame QB's in my life. Regarding Dan, in his biography he stated that his dad coached a pretty good Semi Pro team and that at age 13 he was already a better QB than the QB of the team.

Gosh, the old jerseys were AMAZING! It’s crazy to think they’d change their colors, lose the Pitt script, and demolish this historic college football stadium years later. Imagine what a blue blood powerhouse Pitt would be if it weren’t for the self inflicted implosion by the administration.

I'd gather a guess that the Syracuse defender (#11) attempting a tackle on a punt return, shown on the heads on replay shortly after 16:17, didn't get any pro football interest.

Orioles (former St. Louis Brown franchise)/Pirates. O's won that game, 9-6 to take 3 games to 1 Series, but Buccos would storm back to win Games V-VI-VII, in succession to take series in 7

In Game IV, 1979 M.L.B. season's LXXVIth World Series, host Pirates ☠️ had scored quartet, runs in llnd lnning to take 4-0 lead, but half-inning later, Orioles scored 3 runs to trim Buccos' lead to 4-3. Pirates ☠️ increased their lead to 6-3 w/single runs in both, Vth/VIth Innings. But Orioles exploded for 6 runs in top, VIIIth for eventual 9-6 comeback win/putting them victory away from being World Series winners. But that IVth win never came as Pirates ☠️ outscored Orioles, 15-2 in Games V-VI-VII to take series 4 games to 3
