Adam over at Rare Classic Cars on KZread, always advises to disconnect the battery on 1970's era Ford/Mercury/Lincoln vehicles, when not in use, to prevent the car burning down from what happened to your seat control. Adam has said that the power window and seat controls do wear out and can short out. The power seat control is especially bad as it's got power all the time.

i have the same car as you except in green, had the same rust around the back window, ended up shaving the top and painting it body color, lol so funny My Mark 5 had the same classic dents as your mark 5 .. im currently doing the body work on mine for a repaint, ive rebuilt my interior already including replacing all the dash lights!!
