In today's video we will go though the steps of removing the instrument cluster bezel, and instrument cluster to replace the the Instrument lighting and convert to Blue LED's on a classic Lincoln. Also see below for links to the lights.(I do not sell them so buy at your own risk) DO NOT GET CHEAP T-10'S Take care and be safe.

You do not want cheap ones considering how difficult it is to change them. For the headlamp switch bezel you need BA9S bulbs. Only need one

For the clock. The easiest way is to remove dash pad and access light bulb socket at the back of the clock don't even have to remove the dash pad from vehicle just leave it where it's at. (before you get ahead of yourself you can't access the cluster unfortunately just by removing dash:( Just take out the screw and prop the dash up at an angle. The clock light socket as well as the the instrument cluster light sockets rotate to left. The socket will unlock and reverse the process to reinstall. If the bulbs don't work on the first shot take it out and plug it in the other way. test while everything is still apart before reinstalling anything!!!! See below for how to remove dash pad 🙂

My speedometer and odometer no longer works on my 1978 Lincoln Continental 4 door. I wonder if that cable came unhooked from steering column like you show. I found this video because I was trying to see how to remove my dash so I can see what is going on. My mechanic said that speedometer cable is hooked up correctly on transmission and he thinks it has something do with connecting to dash. I just purchase my 1978 Lincoln Continental (Medium Chamois with Burnt Orange Interior), so I am sort of novice when it comes to my Lincoln. Video is very helpful, I plan to add LED Lights like you did here to mine.

Be very careful with the indicator cable and get good lights not the cheap ebay ones. Also pull up a pick of a speedo cable so you can see how it unclips and good luck!!

Forgive me, but are you sure it’s a 1979 and not a 1978? I remember, my mother had a ‘78, the instrument cluster having gloss, styled white appliqués instead of so much wood tone trim. Great video

Great video! Do the cables need to be disconnected to access the turn signal indicator bulbs only?

I don't think so. Its something about how the turn indicator bulb circuitry works that the current passes through both bulbs when the blinkers are off and when you work the switch it grounds either the left bulb when you switch it to the left and grounds the right bulb when you switch to the right and when you convert them to LED's this continuity ends and leaves one of the led bulbs partially lit the one on the right in my case. If you find a work around let me know. Also there is another way I found out how to disconnect the speedo cable. Look on the firewall near where the steering shaft comes through and you will see very near the speedo cable comes out it connects into a cruise control sensor and then another section of cable continues to the transmission you can disconnect there as well.

I am currently using a bluetooth that I plug into my cigarette lighter. I then turn on my radio and tune it to my phone using the bluetooth. My antennae is broke too (won't go down). So I just use a bluetooth to play KZread Music via my phone onto the radio.

Hello, I have recently bought a 1979 continental town car and I'm looking to do this with the back lighting as its very dim and some bulbs don't work. How many of the 2825 T10 bulbs did you use for the backlighting and do these work for the radio? Also do you know what bulbs are used for the the other lights like indicator/engine and seatbelt lights? Sorry for all the questions but I'm finding this info pretty hard to find. Thanks

Hi Rob thanks for subscribing btw. The radio has the bulbs built in. Would have to open it up a to replace them. Not sure what size they are but most likely a t5. The head lamp bezel is 2 BA9 bulbs, the cluster is 3 t-10s All the seatbelt, blinker indicators check engine etc are t-10s but they may glow slightly you will just have to see. The ac bezel is a t-10, the ashtray, glove box is a t-10, as well as the lamp for the cigarette lighter itself. The visors, door panel, dome light, and rear courtesy lamps are all 42mm's led bulbs. The opera lamps out side are t-10s The rest I can't remember. But they are pretty straight forward as well. Really is a fun car. Enjoy. Rock auto has almost all the parts you can think off cheap!!
